Heh...seems that some people really believe that works. Anyone else ever heard of something like this?

For those that don't want to read through the whole thing, the idea is that some guy painted this car with a high density foam roller and the equivalent of Rustoleum. 8 coats, with wetsanding between every other coat. Then he just finished it up with polishing compound.

It doesnt look bad, but it would look a LOT better if it was sprayed in a booth as opposed to "rolled" in someones driveway

holy hell that doesnt seem bad at all if that is how they did it.

*edit*
nevermind I take that back I saw a pic of the side of the car and its really bad. such a waste of a good car. If he took the time to put nice chrome and stuff on it why waste the body of the car?

Heh - good from far, but far from good.

Doesn't look like he spend much time getting the body straight either.

The only roller paint job I did was primer at the body shop. It was actually a new method the suppliers were pushing to avoid the loss cost of overspray and mixing too much etc. We didn't like it for big jobs though, it didn't adhere the same as spraying. but for little work it was nice. Also saved masking material and the time for prep as well.

From some angles (like the one in the picture I posted) the car looks really good, but in others you can see that there is a lower gloss than with traditional painting, and there is also lots of orange peel.

I dont know what kind of paint he used because I didnt read it, but if its the kind of paint I think it is, its gonna be hard to knock down that orange peel.

He used something similar to Rustoleum, called Tremclad. I guess it's Canadian....

Once my car actually runs, I'll be looking for a paint job. If anyone wants to try the roller theory on mine, I can volunteer it. Can't get any worse than it is now.
