start with column issues

Hi everyone, I have a 87 iroc that I have some starting issues with. A little while ago the car stopped cranking with the key. The ignition still had power and all links were good or replaced that I could see from the engine bay side.
So, long story short, I tried replacing the ignition switch ontop of the coulumn ( the plastice rod type piece) to no avail. So in the end I used a momentary switch and would start the car by leaving the key in the half-way position, then just tapping the monentary button( it also worked nice for adjusting valves since I could crank away without sending ignition to the car if I chose to).
But now even the momentary switch is acting up and now Im at the point where I have been on the side of the road with the key half-on and jumping the leads with a small pry-bar that I carry-ugh. So, I really want to fix the car right and by using the key like it should be.

Please any help is MUCH appreciated, thanks in advance-
Richie

Any 87? Should be on the shifter (auto, right?). the starter wire should go right through that circuit IIRC. I'll try to look at a diagram later.

I would say start with neutral/park safety switch also, as that was the culprit in a 1986 z/28 I had with that problem. And yes it is located on the shifter assy.
