Corvette Heads?

Hey whats up, I just joined this site and look forward to next summer. Anyway I have a 1985 Trans Am 5.0 TPI. The car is awesome and immaculant (u can check out my car domain sight). I have all the original manuals and a list of what was done to the car. It is all origial but the owner claims the car was a special order that came factory with corvette heads (245 hp). Get back to me!

tell him to quit lying. 85 tpi had a similar cam that would later go into the L98, but thats it. most likely you have 416 heads.

it was rated at 215, so i would expect to pull a little below that. figure high 180's to mid 190's are more likely.

that is one clean car. looks great. congrats

later

if you realy want to know what heads are on the car you can take off a valve cover and write down the casting # it's between the rockers. and look it up i know of two web sights www.mortec.com and www.chevy-camaro.com then you will know whats on the car.

if they are vette heads you can tell two ways with teh covers on. they will be aluminum, stock f-body heads are iron, and you will still have the early bolt pattern on the center 2 intake bolts on each side. the vette head never got updated.

Thanks everyone for replying, I'll check it out. I don't care too much if there are vette heads or not cause its my dream car anyway but thats just what the guy told me. I'll just tell u the story he told me...

He said before the 90s some car dealerships were favored over others and therefor got special packages that no one else had, top end stuff.
Anyway the car is from Princeton Pontiac Buick where it was bought.

Thanks again for all the info I'm just starting to get into F-Bodies.
Later.

Purdy, oh, and to find out if it has the L98 aluminum vette heads just scratch it. If it's a "white" metal it's aluminum, it it's iron it'll be hard and "grey". Just get a better picture of the drivers side head.
As for the performance packages in thirdgens... don't listen to the dealers. They're usually blowing smoke up your ass. There were a BUNCH of packages but NONE of them came with aluminum heads. The best was the B4C and 1LE which were camaro specific, iron head L98.
Visit www.thirdgen.org forums for more help.

Aluminum L98 heads are centerbolt heads anyway, they would not go on your car.

It does have a cam that is close to the Corvettes specs. In 86, it got a wussy cam, and then in 87 the 350 and 305 went to a hydraulic roller cam.
85 also has the 2pc rear main seal...ugh.

And I thought that 85 and part of 86, Corvettes had iron heads?
