it stays on for about 2 - 3 minutes after I start the car...

If it was VATS, I would think that the car wouldn't start at all....

it'll do that when the key resistor is dirty or wearing down IIRC

its more like 25-30 minutes minimum. but that won't fix this problem. and i believe the security light works off of the bcm-body control module.

If it stays on and won't let you start the car pop the hood and pull the fuses for the computer. Let it sit for 20 seconds, put the fuses back in and the car should start no problem. You can install a resistor to bypass "trick" the VATS and it should work just fine. I had to do that on my car.

That happened to me as well get to a dealer asap or your mechanic and get it fixed. Your going to get a new set of ignition keys after its done. This happened to me after like a week it started to give problems at start up. Then I got stuck at the train station where it didnt start at all and had to get towed.

is it a z28? if so, its probably ur factory alarm/ remote door lock controlller. the box for it is bottom engine bay under the driver's side. I wouldnt suggest screwing with it unless you have the platform manual. I have the entire copy , you are more than welcome to use mine.
