1977 Z28

Here are some tidbits on my 1977 Z28

It is a real Z28. 350/4bbl/4-speed car. It is now a 350/4bbl/6-speed car.

It was originally orange with a brown interior. Now it is red with a black interior.

Here are some pics of when I got it:

So it had a bad clutch due to oil contamination. One thing led to another, yadda yadda, 18 months later a new car showed up.

The motor had to come out for gaskets & cleaning. So i started taking things apart.

And it ended up like this

Engine got new gaskets, cleaned & painted GM corporate blue like Gm did it.

the ST10 4-speed got all new seals, shifter refurbed a bit. But that is gone now

The frame was repaired. Global West solid body bushings were installed.

Stub back on. New motor mounts. Alston Racing sub frame connectors.

12” 3rd gen 1LE rotors, Hawk Pads, SPC upper control arms, Howe tall ball joints, 3rd gen WS6 steering box, Magnafine PS filter, Edelbrock tie rod sleeves, all linkages new Moog parts.

Had the power booster replated

Still has rear drums. Using Porterfield shoes

Full Hotchkis TVS system. There is the original exhaust that came with the car.

All the under the hood parts were stripped & painted

Uh-oh, there is the OE color!

Getting there! Notice the 3rd gen serp setup. I glass beaded those brackets to make them pretty lol

Hide the HVAC vacuum canister under the dash

4th gen fans controlled with a DCC PWM fan controller

Refurbished the HVAC box with intention to reconnect A/C some day. Someday….Before & after

The interior has not received much attention yet. A lighted 4th gen rear view mirror! Fancy.

4th gen leather seats and front seat belts. They are in, I just have no good pics!

And 4th gen horns too. Hell yeah!

Rear 3 point belts (out of a Ford!) are in for my kids

Changes coming soon!

It now sports a T56 trans from a 99 Z28. Pro 5.0 shifter. I still use the factory clutch setup, and a McLeod adapter to mate the T56 to the 4spd bellhousing

6spd vs 4spd. Yikes!

the old hole and the new hole. Shifter now comes right up through the hole in the automatic console! We call that dumb luck!

My clutch linkage is all rod ends

Still has the OE 3.73 open rear, but that is hopefully changing soon too.

Just got new exhaust from American Racing Headers. My car acted as their prototype for 2nd gen SBC cars. Custom headers, w00t! Nick & the guys there did a great job. 3” stainless pipes all the way back. Flanges behind the stainless flowmaster 40s so I can easily remove the x-pipe for drive train service.

more pics & info coming soon

I don’t care about awards & shows and such,. I drive the hell out of this car. But a few I got were nice.

The members of NastyZ28.com voted it to their calendar a few years ago

I got a spot award at the Camaro Nationals a few years back.

new exhaust. best I can do right now w/o a lift.

American Racing Headers in Long Island.

Nice clearance for the filter & clutch linkage

Tailpipes! Flanges behind the stainless flowmaster 40s. I can remove the middle section.

It is totally over-exhuasted right now, but plans area foot to remedy that. Regardless, it runs better now, the old exhaust and hooker headers were doing me no justice. Ahh, to have tail pipes again is so sweet!

This is a cool car. My first car was a 74 Camaro 350 Muncie M-21. I wish everyday I still had it. Have any more pics?
