no, they were the domain of poor folk and likely half-ass cars.

imo these flats are cool because they are different. like pastel colors in the lase 80s/early 90s and recently two tones

trendy paint is cool if you have the scratch to do it again in 10 years and decide resale value matters not. even though it always does.

This is where I think the Vinyl fits in perfect, lasts lets say 3-4 years, trend dies, Vinyl comes off. Its win win.

i agree with that if cost is reasonable and it really doesn't hurt the paint coming off years later.

I agree with the fact that it is a trend, but it's a trend that has been going on for much longer than I thought. Usually once OEMs get into the game, it's usually time to get out. Everyone from Bentley to Hyundai has a flat or matte paint option for their cars.
Looks great at autoshows, but that first time you see bird **** on the hood....I don't want to be there.

Tell me about it I've been searching the internet high & low for different ideas. I want to know about it as much as possible before I commit, because it seems pretty new to me, granted I've been out of the game for a little while. I priced everything out for a complete car, to just doing the wheels. If i'm going to do this I'm going to do it once, and do it right.

The one site I've been looking at is dipyourcar.com they sell complete kits for automotive. They have a pretty nice Flat navy blue color similar to the Camaro that was posted earlier.

I have a buddy whos willing to paint the hood, front & rear bumpers for $600. The guys good, but my main concern is the Mystic color matching from front to back regardless of blending. If I plasti-dip I can lay down one solid matte color.

If you are looking to do it once, plastidip won't be an option unless you just want to see how it would look. Do you have a render of how you want the car to look? Does your friend have any samples to look at for reference that could be helpful?

Let me re-frase, "looking to do it once". I'm all for the temporary solution the Plasti-dip or Vinyl offer as far as a life span of lets say a few short years. I change my mind often, and who knows I may end up selling the car sometime in the future, I can always know that theres a fair paint job underneath unscathed by the elements. At least the new skin can protect that even if its only temporary.

I want to find the best of these temporary inexpensive solutions and get the right color.

www.dipyourcar.com offers a complete car kit for $300 vs a $600 paint job with questionable matching due to a difficult color. The DIY Kit I can shoot myself with the help of Ted in a weekend.

I'm just mulling about here, i'm pretty sure this is the route i'm going just narrowing everything down.

Ahh. I thought you meant do it once as in, last for a long time. Not, do it once and simply do it minus the rattle can. I got you now. If the finished product can come out that uniformly as you have shown in the pics while still being relatively easy to remove, then that's not bad at all.

in the few weeks ive been threw 35 spray cans of plastidip and 1 car kit. The stuff really is amazing and if you dont like it it will peel right off. Not hard to do at all. I plastidipped my roof and people were questioning it at a meet so i peeled it off right then and there and the paint looks as good as ever. Plastidip deffinatly gets my vote

I may plasti dip the nova till I paint it....... Just to protect my primer. Does a special gun need to be purchased or can you use a regular gravity feed gun?

The original videos on YouTube from Dipyoucar.com were using a Black & Decker sprayer!

I've seen people using that 10.00 gun from harbor freight. Some say to thin it more when using a gravity fed gun.
