They said they were hot lapping it, and expected it to pick up about 1/2 second with a proper cool down.

Yea but ive seen ls1's hot lap and keep running better and better...W/ the modern tech. the car should be less effected by heat.

What modern technology would make the car run faster the hotter it got?

What i meant was that the newer motors always seem to be less susceptible to heat through the improved technology of the engine

I've seen plenty of LS1s go slower and slower as they were hot lapped. What modern technology do you know of that would make LS engines run faster when they are hot lapped?

maybe the airbox location on the camaro could be helping with the heat?

Ive owned both and the LT1 intake would be scorching hot after 2 runs...when the LS1 would be cool.

Overall technology of the motor...sorry not a GM engineer can pinpoint it for you.

But how would something being under worse conditions make it perform better? That was the question.

Hmmn theres a tricky one, guesss only a GM engineer could tell ya aluminum transfers heat better than plastic....

If this was technology based I would have thought it would have been the opposite considering one of those engine is reverse cooled, choosing to cool the heads prior to the block but eh the more runs you get in without a cool down period the hotter its going to get til it levels off.

a propeprly warmed engine runs better then a cold engine.........but hot lapping it isnt going to help times. But im sure the fans a air flow to radiator are better on the new camaro then fourth gens. I think they just needed a better driver.

The reverse cooling didnt work on the LT1 the way they wanted it to.

As in how? cause everything I read stated that the only reason the LT1 was able to run the compression it was able to run on 87 octane fuel was due to it using reverse flow cooling and I also remember the early brochures and GM material prior to the LS1 hitting the floors stating it would too use reverse flow cooling but due to a patent lawsuit GM was no longer allowed to use this type of cooling in any of its engines, so it changed its design to a standard flow cooling system prior to the LS1 hitting the showroom floor.
