160 stat to stock

I have a 160 stat in my car and when I had the computer tuned it was tuned for a 160...well I now dislike my 160 stat because my gas mileage is not as great and it takes forever for my car to warm up, so I have to freeze my balls off until its warm enough. I was wondering if I'll damage anything if I put a stock 180 stat back in there, I'm aware my fans will probally constantly be on but other then that is there anything that can happen?

For starters - the stat won't affect warm up times at all until the coolant reaches 160*. With 160* coolant, you should have plenty of warm air inside the car, and the engine should also be coming up to temp nicely.

Also - I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that your stock t-stat should be 195*, not 180* - although 180* is a good compromise.

180 is good, i have 160 in both my cars and 195 in my truck. my truck takes awhile to warm up, my lt1 took even longer to warm up with the 160m and the ls1 warms up almost instantly with the 160.

I dunno why, but even witht he 160 the coolant is going to be around 180 when the stat is open.

Yea, just did a little searching and it looks like they were right - 180 seems to be stock.

I agree that the warm up time should not be affected, at least not until the temp of the thermostat.

And the fans will be running for sure all the time.

If you want more heat in the winter, set the heat to far right, and A/C control to max A/C. What happens is on max ac the interior air is recirculated, and the a/c will not run due to the freezing temps. Recirculating warmed up air will keep cabin temps warmer than bringing in cool outside air.

Check with your tuner. Even with a 160 stat they normally don't set the fans to come on until a higher temp, if the fan was set to come on at 160 they would be running all the time. I have a 160 and my fans come on at 185, which only happens when I'm sitting idling, as soon as I start moving the temp drops back down.

yes

also, try grabbing your heater hoses by the firewall. see if one is very hot and the other is not as hot or cool.

there is a tsb for improper alignment/operation of the heat/cool selector. apparently there can be issues with the cable not fully opening the blend door. so you could have full heat selected but are still allowing cool air in too. this would mean the air would always be lukewarm though.

BTW, pcmforless programed my pcm w/180 stat for - Fan1 on/off 190/187, Fan2 195/190.

Call them and they will tell you what they put in the tune.

At start up its around 1200, then when it warms up it drops to about 850 900ish, sometimes its at 1000, it has a tendency to fluctuate.
