Launch Advice

Ok. I've always been an automatic guy so launching was never really a problem for me. My best 60' with the M6 is a 2.1 before i put the LCA's and PHR with better tires. Whats the best way I can get this car off the line because a 2.1 just doesn't cut it.

If you are running street tires then I would come off @ idle so you don't roast them the whole 60 and just ease into it...

What kind of burnout are you doing? What treadwear are your rear tires?

i leave around 4k on BFG KDW's, stock 2002 z28. It's all about having a feel for the clutch. You're gonna have to really ride it to get it out, not just pop it when you launch. If you start spinning, you've gotta ease up slower. If it bogs, raise the rpms. you'll find the sweet spot.

My best run is a 12.805 @109, 1.881 60'

my burnout was nothing crazy. I was on a cooper street tire that sucked on the street but had totally hooked on the track. Now im on a 315 with a 160 treadwear. They seem to hook pretty good on the street so im assuming they would do even better on the track. I guess I'm so affraid of breaking the rear that I dont like to bring the RPM's up to high on a launch. Screw it, thats what the cars for right?

I would do a decent burnout and leave at a higher RPM like others have mentioned. And keep a card with a towing company phone number in your wallet LOL.

As another testimonial, my brother left at around 4k in his relatively stock '99 TA and his best was a 1.98 60' on ****** 245/50 Falken radials.

Ok so 4k is where its at then. Lets see how long my rear can hold up lol. I guess i just need to spend some more time at the track as I was always an automatic guy with no launch problems lol.

Those sumi's suck bro... I can peddle my car pretty good on the street with the same exact tire. For some reason, just as a nitto... there worse at the track. DONT do a burnout on those tires.

i give very high regards to BFG KDW's all around. they're fantastic street tires and get sticky enough on the track where i've launched well and still managed to hold the rear together... so far.

Torque- I remember you telling me that they sucked...Like i said they've held up on the street pretty damn good but I guess ill try it a couple different ways at the track with heating them up, how long i burn, if i burnout. Ill let you guys know when i go down to E-town see if anybodys up for it.

whats your tire pressure at? everyone is different but id normally do 24-26psi. do a decent burnout so u can see some smoke coming out. then id try anywhere from 3500-4000 rpm. slip the clutch quickly, dont dump it. as youre letting the clutch out fast, get on the throttle. when the track is prepped, you will hook alot harder.

if it helps, there was a guy with a 2002 ws6 stock except a K&N filter. couldnt get out of the low 13s, cut pretty bad 60's. i gave him advice and on the next run he pulled his personal best, a 12.95 @ 108

i usually left off idle. hence my 2.4 60' times. but id still spin, hell i even broke my tires loose going into 4th gear at 111mph...

thats was on junk street tires. once i get a good rear, i'm gonna run slicks and dump it at around 5k... we'll see how that goes.

I had my tire pressure in the mid 20's. My problem wasn't traction though. I had a bogging problem and really just wanted to know what my safest high rpm launch would be. I'm going to E-town on Friday if anyone cares to join and watch the show lol.

when you bog, just keep raising your rpm until you don't anymore.. the right rpm is just between bog and spin

If you go to Island, chances are you'll get a lot more runs that englishtown. I think e-town is still doing 3 runs then done? At Island on a friday night you'll get 6 or more if you get there when gates open. Of course its not guaranteed, but they don't cut off your run numbers

His car idles fine. It's like an old record player. Sounds great at 78 RPM.

Last time i was at E-town on a friday night they weren't very busy and i left with four runs. After a few runs i start to feel bad for my car, being my daily and all.
