As for modding a 305, it doesnt cost that much. I got a ZZ4 cam for 120 bucks shipped, Stock LB9 heads worked and installed with larger stainless 1.94/1.5 valves with .550 springs for 350 bucks, Pro Mag Roller Rockers 1.6 ratio for 160, and the rest of the mods were free, except the headers. I never really got it running due to lack of time and increase in breaking things, but I dont see anythign wrong with moddifying a 305.

professional tuning for computer controlled engines costs about the same as a professional carb tune. there are a few people around here that do tuning or you can go to www.thirdgen.org and read up on how to do it yourself. really isn't diffeicult to tune with the software that is out now and it is really cheap to get into, abut the price of 1 professional tune can get you everything to tune forever.

and how much weight reduction? The only attempt to making a 305 fast is forced induction and/or weight reduction IMHO ... Ive owned all the third gen 305's except CFI, and they all blow.. but to each their own. the LG4 was loud after full exhaust, the L03 was great on gas, and the TPI... well... it was ok.

Prevo is our resident tuner, but I belive he is busy with schoo now? I dunno, havent seen him or heard from him. That would be the guy to go too, dunno if anyone else has any experiance with OBD I PROM tuning.
You can do it yourself, I still have most of the software as I tried to get serious with it in college, but it never panned out.

Ok, I can see 14.20 from an LO3 .... DOWNHILL

I have to admit tho, power+sound to city MPG was pretty decent... other than that, my bone stock LO3 was slower than a constipated bowel...

He had edelbrock aluminum heads and every free mod you could think of with 3.54 gears in a dana 44. I'll host up a run or two and post links in a moment

my car used to sound and look mean, too bad it was only a 14second warrior. lol
91-92 z28 spoiler, 3inch harwood cowl hood, edelbrock headers, !cat, borla w/open plate. at WOT it sounded like open headers.
i honestly could not get anyone to bite at a stop light in that car. between teh pipes and rolling on slicks adn skinnies 24/7 no one woudl ever step up.

I never said I didnt believe him, hes all over TGO with those times... I always wanted to build a 305 but after extensive research, its just a waste cuz youll get much more out of the 350

*EDIT* Looks like that car got off the line reallllllllly nicely GJ Id take a black 91-92 Z28 anyday

unfortunately there wasn't much knowledge of how to develop tbi at the time i had and spent lots of money on that car. if i had i tto do all over again i would jsut drop in 4.10 gears, LT1 cam, get a carb intake and make an adaptor plate, drop a 3k stall and a shift kit in it, tune and run 12's.
everyone cries about the swirl port heads on the tbi cars, too bad the cam is so small that it can't even take advantage of the stock flow available.

as far as building a 305 being a waste, like i said before, if you have a good running engine start collecting parts. whatever you can bolt on now, go for it. once you build the solid 350 you really want do the swap. there is no need to pull a perfectly good engine until a suitable replacement is ready.
