Need a Clutch

Well my car has hit 70,000 miles and it looks like i need a clutch. I was thinking a spec stage 2? I'm trying to spend the least amount of money for a decent product ya know? Any ideas?

Are you needing a clutch because its at 70,000 miles, or is it slipping?

Check with one of the sponsors. I hate spec, and will never use a clutch from them again.

If your going with a spec, go with a spec 3+. I suggest taking a look at a Monster Stage 3 clutch.

My buddy has a 2+ in his 98 ta with a 224 cam and ported heads. He loves the clutch.

i heard its bad to have a clutch that can hold too more power then you make and the stage 2 is good for like 500hp

Why would he need a custom clutch for his application when he wants to spend as little as possible? FWIW, if you want to spend as little as possible get a spec 1 or 2, if your clutch see's a lot of abuse and you feel like spending extra cash go with a monster or textralia.

Thanks, I appreciate your endorsement of my product.. Besides what you think our clutches are actually very competitively priced. When we build a "custom" unit you are paying for what you need and only what you need. Not cool paint, BS warranties, or a flywheel and alignment tool so that it can be called a "kit".

Isn't the clutch inside the bellhousing? Isn't the only time you will see it is when you are installing it and when you are pulling it back out? I guess its a good thing that the other guys spend so much time and money making their stuff pretty, this way you will have something nice to look at when you are pulling it back apart so much..

I am not about quantity, I am about quality. Our product is a bit more time consuming since everything is set up by the hand of an experienced craftsman. Not somone getting his $7.75/hour and watching the clock.

I have a JS performance clutch. if you have any questions, you can ask me. I don't race often (since 2006 i think) and don't drive hard or have a tremendous amount of horsepower (~400whp). I love my clutch, I came from a Spec 3i. I had to go with something that I knew people had first hand experience with.

Yeah, a clutch that works right isn't for everybody!

Camvill, give a sponsor a call to see what a custom setup has to offer and check out the cost. Don't fall for the warranty bs that the other salespeople want to give you either, if you install the clutch yourself the warranty is usually thrown out.

As stated in my thread that got deleted...there are 3 or 4 manufacturers that make all clutches on the market. So, most likely, any clutch camvill picks will work fine.

Btw, Js told me not to go with his clutch, so I went and ordered the other clutch I was looking at the next day. It's now in the car, grabs like no tomorrow, and I'm happy with my choice.

Camvill- If you want a sponsor to do it, go with JS, but if your looking to get it done the cheapest and do the install yourself(it's not hard at all), then JS is not for you since they only install their clutches.

i actually like the fact that you can talk to josh and custom taylor a clutch to meet your needs. as someone that has bad knee problems buying a clutch blind can put you at a loss of cash really quick if you get a clutch thats too heavy for your liking. if i needed a clutch i would be talking with him about one...too bad i have a brand new one

If you get a clutch that's rated for much higher up I believe it'll just be really grabby. For example, I told josh I want my clutch built to hold nitrous ( it's a track car) and was told that off of spray it'll be a little touchy

I'm pretty sure 95% of fbodys out there have an "off of the shelf clutch" in them. 'm not knocking your product at all. I never said a spec clutch was my choice becuase it was painted blue did I?The guy wants something a decent clutch for as little as he can spend. A spec stage 1 clutch is $294 from thunder racing. That is rated well above stock hp levels. If you can build me a custom clutch for 294$ please pm so I can get further details. As far as bs warranties go I bought a used textralia clutch and was said to only have 1400miles on it and THEY STILL RESURFACED IT FOR ME !!! All I did was pay shipping.

Thats great that you had a good experience with Textrailia. I am glad you are happy with it and them.

I have done clutches as affordably priced as $150 for a standard style 10.5" unit. Some styles are more expensive to do (such as LT1 pull clutches) but it usually turns out that when given the option most people don't mind paying a little more for a better part that is better suited to his or her needs.

i know when im getting my new clutch put in im not even going to bother dealing with looking for "the right clutch" im just going to have josh put one of his in my car.

You don't even need it. I just used it for bolt sizes that way I didn't have to keep going under the car and guessing. Took me 10 hrs the first time taking my time.

It doesn't because they are replacing the clutch and flywheel at the same time. But you are absolutely correct in situations where you aren't replacing the flywheel.
