10 sec. bracket car...

My step pops has a 49 Ford Anglia that ran 9.90s in the 80s. Its been but away since about 87. WE decided we are gunna go halves and get it going again. MY questions are what lisence would I need to get to run the car and What rules do i need to go by? Like he said it was a super gas car back then.

Any info is awesome and I would be selling my T/A also so still much to think about but post up. thanks.

Tim

Join the NHRA. You get a rule book with your membership. If the car is going to stay slower than the 9.99 mark all you need is a 6 point roll bar, seat belts, and a jacket.

What about chassis wise? The car only has back brakes. I think it weighs int he area of 1200lbs with out driver. Motor wise its a built 350 with a 12 inch tunnel ram rise manifold with twin 660 holleys, 3 spd trans and a strange rear with 5.86s. I'll get the list of what the car is exactly and post in a little bit.

Right now I'd need toget it running, rebuild the trans and look over the rear. I need new tires all around. Has a wheelie bar on it already. All the cut offs, fuel cell in the back. Like I guess that would all need to be update cause I doubt its all the same.

There is alot of outdated stuff on that car.. With a few changes we could have it in the 8's which is a whole new bag of rules and a competition license would be required. More work yes but a 1200 lb V8 car the only goes 9.90 is embarassing if you ask me..

haha. I was told the car saw 8s once. My stop pops ran the car high nines with never braking parts. He said 9.90s all day no problems and saw 8.90s once. Here is the list I got from what he remembers...

Car:1949 Anglia (English Ford)
Engine: 350 4 Bolt main/525 HP
Twin 660 Holleys, 12" Edelbrock Tunnel ram, corrvette angle plug heads, 12.5:1 TRW pistons, Cam Dynamics Roller High lift cam
Trans: Select Performance Turbo 400 w/ High stall 8" Converter and brake, winter shifter
Rear: Olds Locked rear end (Strange Engineering 5.86:1)
Brakes: Hurst airheart Disc brack system
Suspension: Koni Coilovers, Front Axle P-S Specialty

Then I found 9.5 at 140

Step pops said Super gas was a 9.90 index. And the weight is actually 1989lbs. not sure if thats with or without driver.

yes, its a 9.90 index but those guys are running 9.90 at 170+.. Its all a game.. I am not sure if you are looking to do the work yourself or if the budget allows but this is the kind of thing we do best.. We could have you guys up and running (competitively) in a short period of time. I could even go to the track with you the first time to get you guys re-familiarized with the car and the changes we would make. Super gas is fun but very tough competition.. You will really test your skill if you decide to run the class.

Yes, thanks Josh. The plans are we would go halves on getting the car going and most like I'd be driving it. I doubt my mom would let him race it beign they have 7 kids ranging from 18 to 7. I'll have to talk to him but I think we would want a nice 10 sec bracket car set up. Whether that means taking some motor out of it or gearing idk.
