Geeks inside

So my hard drive on my laptop started making death noises a couple days ago, and just now it took 3 tries to start up my comp... first time said OS not found, second time froze halfway, and third worked. The first HD died (kinda like this but it kept going to a black screen of death) and I got it replaced under warrantee... this one started doing that some time ago then fixed itself, but I think it's a goner soon. With that in mind I realized I can score a sick deal on one Friday so I'll get one then... so what should I go for / stay away from? Thanks.

seagate or western digital make the best drives. and yes, it sounds like its slowly dying, i had one die on me and it couldnt find the OS until you reset it a few times, til it eventually just stopped working.

western digitals are definately one of the best in my book, ive had the same WD HDD in my computer since i built it back in 01 or 02. maxtors are pretty good but some have problems. i bought a diamond max 9 about 2 or three years ago and it promptly died a year later, just out of nowhere. got it RMA'd and then a year later it started acting up then fixed itself.

how bout this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144379 (i found it on bestbuy first for 69 bucks then checked there and say I'd save 3 dollars lol) I just wish i had an easy way to transfer all my stuff... there should be some way just to send my files to my dads computer without using email or anything lol. Should I make a gmail and email myself everything? lol whats the max storage on those?

looks pretty good, but then again ive never replaced the HDD in my laptop (for the whole year or so i had it)

max storage for gmail is 2 GB i believe. 3 options i see: search for an "online harddrive site" such as Xdrive (if theyre still alive), cd's and lots of them, dvds

That drive from Newegg is a good one, that's what I just put in my PowerBook a month or so ago.

Bring your laptop with you tomorrow, and I'll see what I can do to pull data off of it for ya.
