TX2K on the internet and TX2K in real life are two totally different things. I personally think it is one of the best events of the year that I attend. And no, not specifically for the things that happen on the highway after the sun goes down. It is the only racing event I have ever been to that attracts so many people from across the country to one single place for the same purpose. People from as far north as Alberta Canada and as far south as Colombia were represented in the event this year. It really is awesome seeing and meeting people from around the country (and world) and seeing just what everyone else is up to. The fact that it draws some of the fastest street legal cars out there is just an added bonus. It is a shame the actual legal track event got rained out this year, but we still managed to have a good time hanging out and bs'ing the rest of the week. It really is one of those events that you have to experience in person before you can truly judge it. Over the past 2 years that I have gone I have made a lot of new friends and connections in the industry, as well as just had an overall awesome vacation from real life for a few days

And about the roll racing, I think the event of the weekend was actually the Dig Night on Friday. No prep, 1/8th mile, heads up, run what ya brung Street Outlaw's style. $200 buy in, 55 cars entered, $11,000 winner take all. It was a legit setup on a rented air strip with police security. All the fun of a big money street race without worrying about it being on the street...

The car hobby got a lot more fun and affordable for me once I realized that I don't give two $#!&$ is someone else's car is faster than mine. As a result, I spend more time driving/enjoying my car and less time with it in 100 pieces because someone went faster. If/when I upgrade it's because that's the new tinkering I want to do that week. Only timeslip I'm ever trying to beat is my own.

Good friend of mine hasn't figured this out yet, his car's been apart for four years now because his buddy made some more dyno HP than his setup would have, so the project went off the rails in the hunt for dyno-penis.

and none of the safety of a real track. that is one accident away from being a giant disaster. especially for the person who paid for the rental, yikes the liability. that video shows a giant pile of stupid.

roll racing is still lame. even using the term.

I am sure the event coordinators had a ton of liability insurance and all entrants signed any rights away when they entered.

You don't complain when guys stand next to cars launching at Atco etc...there is always a risk.

So far, these guys have a monopoly on a very lucrative market so why all the hate, they prob make money hand over hand on this event.

In red is the only thing I disagree with. While event coordinators like to think they are protected from litigation a good lawyer will blast through it if there's even an ounce of negligence or fault present.

This was the most stupid 6 minutes of racing I have ever seen and I've watched drifting!

Well yea, but racing is racing regardless of whether you think roll racing is lame or not. Same liability applies to guys at Wall speed way or atco running a drift event no?

Right, and just look at what went on with that Atco lawsuit a few years ago.

I asked a few lawyers about it a little while ago and they all said the same thing- in the case of an incident there would still be an investigation to try and place blame on the "sanctioning body". They'd look for any miscue that implies that the SB didn't keep up their end of the bargain in any way.

Example- if there's an oil down and the track is not properly cleaned and you end up rolling your car. They don't get to just wave the paper and tell you good day sir.

Yup, but considering this event is participated by guys with cars valuing in the half mil easy range, I am sure they have some fantastic lawyers

EMS and the fire dept were on hand just in case anything happened. I do agree though that people were standing waaaay to close to the road. And it only got worse as the race went on. I stood at the starting line because I wanted no part of cars flying into me. If they could get a barrier up for people to stand behind I think it would have been much better. Still a fun time though

haha this is my point. sure there are people at atco standing off to the side, but most of them are behind barriers. those working and not protected by the barriers are minimal at most. the difference between here and atco is if the side guys get mowed over at atco its only at the most like 5 or 6 dudes...here it could easily be 100 people getting mowed over. that would be enough of a tragedy to never see Texas 2k again.

im not hating on the event, nor the dudes racing...i have no idea who they are. Im just saying, that 6 minute drag racing vid looked like it was mere inches to feet away from never happening ever again and maybe someone ending up in jail for a bit.

especially with ''no prep''
