While throwing nonsense back on the car the other day, I paused and thought, "Should I order a MWC front bumper support?" Cost $150, weigh 4lbs, and supposedly it takes a decent while to receive. With that said, worth it for this streetcar, or just run this thing?

If you are in a hurry, then use the cracked support. Otherwise, got for the tubular unit. Why? Because race/street car.

Dude. Put the 150 towards the paint... Don't waste it on something that you really don't need.

Define "hurry." I looked back and saw that Smash recently got one too. Any idea on realistic turnaround time between payment & delivery?

Valid, I suppose.
Again, this isn't a race car. It barely sees the road, yet alone the track. Then again, that logic hasn't stopped me from doing engine mods either, I suppose.

I don't think I'm the one to define "Hurry". It's your car so that's your call. I ordered from Burkhart and it took mine about two weeks to arrive. I don't know how long it took Kohler's.

problem solved
moderate cost, mild gain, large risk = not worth it

Not running a support both saves you money and more weight than buying an intercooler mount for no apparent reason.

Mine took less than a week, but I am magical at getting free things.
I would just run the stocker or find someone with a nice one. The whole life/death thing is silly cause its for low impact collisions anywho.

Waste of money IMO. There's probably plenty of places to spend $150 that will give you more benefit.

Do it. Because at 60mph that stock support wont do you any better than a mwc one

The foam? Sure. The metal portion that ties the front frame rails together? Ya, that ****er matters a lot. Stop reading the internets.

No, you're right. I overlooked that part. Thanks for talking it out, guys. I think I'm going to just keep the stocker.

So, I swung by Wsex's house after work today and picked up the foam portion to his old bumper support. I think he was under the impression that the NCAA pool was still in swing, and that he could win some favor somehow, because he gave it to me gratis. Of course, I wasn't about to correct him and high-tailed it out of there!
I already resolved that the MWC front bumper support wasn't worth it for me on this car, but to satisfy my curiosity, I went ahead and weighed the stock stuff.
If the interwebs are correct, then the MWC front bumper support weighs approximately 4-5 lbs.
I weighed the stock foam and it was 5-6lbs.
The metal portion (with the T/A fogs still on) measured 16lbs.
So, from the factory there are 21-22lbs up there. With 5-6lbs of foam that can be removed for free, if the risk is worth it to you. Personally, I just through the new, non-cracked foam on, cleaned up & sanded the rust off the metal support bar, and gave it a quick spray.
I don't care if no one will see it, I will feel better knowing there is a hair less rust, and a touch more purrrdy, underneath there
I just noticed the two orange spots in the last picture. Those are reflections of the useless HF picks that are laying on the ground.

Chris, the car is a lovely driveway ornament isn't it?
I was checking the forum's "Events" page and it seems the next "TBD" North meet is in September. There isn't anyone running it yet, but I'm sure someone will step up with a killer idea to round off the season. http://www.njfboa.org/events/
But, that doesn't mean we can't do some unofficial wing-eating/summer-cruising off the books! You twist Don's arm, and get your brother to come, I'll handle the other North schmucks I know!
