Drag racing questions

Rather than cluttering up the other thread, I will start this one.

With a 2.04 60', if I get that down to say a 1.7, what does that equate to ET? I know there is some general rule of thumb to it, but not sure..

Also, I cannot for the life of me, hook halfway decent. I run my MTs at like 25psi, and do a semi good burnout.

How long should I do a burnout?

Thanks guys

Your MPH is good for an 11.8x pass. I say that because I went the same MPH in my friends Chevelle and went 11.80. I forget what the 60' was.

Your PSI is fine. With that tire you dont need a big burnout. I usually just go 1st gear, 2nd gear and then pull out. I called M/T direct on a proper burnout for that tire because I heard mixed opinions and their way works best. It also depends on how you go through the waterbox, you dont want to slosh water into your wheel wells and have it drip onto your tire while you are sitting at the line.

Alright, now would I see much of a gain from running skinnies up front?

I run my MT's at about 18 at the track... it's the 17" chrome wheels like you see my avatar. Honestly you might wanna try just leaving easier to get off the line. If you can't hook well at all leaving at ~1200-1500 RPMs, a quick fix is to kinda creep into the gas for the first 5 feet.

I have never gone from streets to skinnies, I've always had one or the other. I would imagine it does help, otherwise we wouldnt all have them!

Less rotating mass, unspring weight, and less friction of the tires up front = quicker times.

"""Ususally""" a tenth in a 60' is good for about 2 in the quarter..

I run mine in 18 psi. They seem to be the best around there for me. Skinnes are usualy good for about a tenth and 1 mph. Atleast that's what ive always heard

Ive seemed to have my 275/40 ET streets @ ~25 PSI when I hooked the best.

I was able to pull a 1.57 short time with tubular LCAs/tube non adju TQ arm.

I do a burnout to where you can see the smoke over the spoiler in the rear view; see video skip to 1.50

Hey LT, nice meeting you Sunday, your car is impressive! As I told ya I have tons of passes on my stalled car running the mickeys and have tried many different launches. 18 to 20 seem to work best for me, when my motor was stock cammed with minor bolt ons flashing the converter would get me my best ets. Now with the cam in it it wants more rpm so I load it up to about 2200-2600 and go and have hit some good times doing it that way.

Now your LT1 has a different power band I'm sure so your technique might not be the same so I would say just try some different ways, all trial and error. As for the skinnies I picked up almost .15 et and 1.5 mph. I should have mine on this weekend so I can get into the 11.80s range to keep up with you guys. You should get many more runs this weekend and I'm sure you will nail down some good numbers, I'd be glad to watch you run and help in anyway I can. Sometimes it helps being the "old guy" with alot of experience.

Nonsense, when I am 100% I can make it, I'll make a callout thread.

Until then, focus on tips for sub 2.0 60's

haha ok...I gave you the bottle for one reason...to beat me, now go out there and get it done! Long burnouts always helped me when I was having traction issues.

I saw, nice burnout, longer than I do.

Tis the end of the season, suppose I could really burn those MTs.

I bought the tires used... put ~60 passes on them, and just sold them with about 2/32's of tread left... with street miles/burn outs too.
