Island Dragway - race fuel in plastic red containers ?

Just curious as to the reasoning behind this. Not trying to start a problem but I brought 10 gallons of VP racing c12 sealed(yes brand new) into the track. I was told by the place I purchase it from that it's ok to transport in a car since the the containers are DOT approved.

Yes, a security guard told me next time I need it in red plastic containers and he was going to let me slide for this one time. He also informed me that if a state trooper came I would recieve a fine. Some one I pitted next to must have informed him that my fuel was in sealed metal vp racing containers.

Pretty sure they sell vp race fuel in the same containers in the state of New Jersey. I have been told that it is DOT approved to transport in an enclosed vehicle.

I believe those cans are approved for transport until opened.

Regardless, the rule is not one that we choose, it is a state police thing that is supposed to be applied at all tracks, yet somehow only our particular officer enforces it, and yes there are fines involved.

Both still had the white seal on on them upon entry. When I was told this there was a bone dry one in the bed of my truck and one still sealed. Perhaps he should have further to see.

Nick, further to see...

If you look further down the track, you'll see the finish line...

It's actually an important thread to keep up, because some people don't know that it is state law. The security guy isn't going to check the seals on every VP can that comes in the gate, he's just going to inform the owner of it that fuel needs to be stored in an approved red container. No ones trying to upset you about it, its just simply the state police giving us a hard time.

yes i believe fuel HAS to be in red in nj, the different colors are for different fluids (even if they say fuel on them)

this is true. I work at a gas station and new jersey law states that they must be red. Also, VP racing makes those 5 gallon cans that look like the type they use in nascar and they also don't have a DOT approval for transporting fuel, so watch out.

Well it looks like i'll have to invest in some red gas cans (or are they containers since they're plastic?) and some blue dye lol. It cracks me up that someone went out of their way to let a security guard that I didn't have my fuel in red containers.
