Atco 10-2 Results....

First congrats to Jeff Wilson on his new best and a super clean car on top of it. Also met Slow88 (Jim) and unfortunately he had some electrical gremlins cut his night short (no pun intended). But for a Tuesday night, Atco was packed to the point that street guys didn't get the first run until close to 8:40 or so??? But they did hot lap us and if you hurried you got a second run almost right away and if you really hustled back to the lanes you could have had a third run. I only made two passes.....

Run 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KH_AH6LK4Lk

After a dissappointing Friday night session I regrouped and had at it again.
Tires at 18psi, good burnout, rear shocks 1 full turn from full soft to try and eliminate the wheel hop I had Friday. Launch at 4000, let the clutch fly and roll.

R/T............ .226
60'............ 1.885 new personal best (but still lacking)
330............ 5.288
1/8............ 8.029
mph............ 90.19
1000........... 10.367
1/4............ 12.337 new personal best
mph............ 115.38 much better than Friday

So this was a good run for me, progress was made. I am still slow on nailing the gas as I snap the clutch and you can here the motor dip right at launch. Got to work on this. Tires felt good, a little mushy but I am getting used to it. Did not flat shift this one and wish I had done so....might have gotten into the 12.20's???

Run 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFUnXXkw1wQ

So I figured if some is good....more is definitely better......Air pressures, shocks all unchanged. I made an attempt to launch with more RPM 4500-5000 and sort of flash the RPM as I let the clutch out to prevent the motor from dropping RPM, didn't really do a good job of it. I shifted 1-2, 2-3 normal, but flat shifted 3-4. Why? I don't know. I let the GTO I was up against get in my cage abit. I was asleep on the tree and he stomped me anyway. He ran a 11.409 @ 119 to my....

R/T............ .603
60'............ 1.879
330............ 5.352
1/8............ 8.139
MPH............ 88.33
1000........... 10.539
1/4............ 12.551
MPH............ 113.23

I sort took a step back on that run by trying to do too much and not concentrating on my own deal......Next time.

Chris

nothing crazy...LS6 intake, LT's, ORY, Older Stage 2 Cartek heads (241 castings), small and I do mean small cam upgrade (MTI b1, they don't even sell it anymore its so small). All done by the previous owner and tuned by Cartek. I added Comp Full roller rockers after I had a stocker come apart, but that's all. 3.73 gears and Spec Stage 3+ with aluminum flywheel.

I say nothing crazy, because it really a tame combo especially compared to what guys build now.

Yeah, I definitely gotta work on that. You can hear the car bog and its not because of it dead hooking, its the driver not mashing the gas and keeping the motor in the rpm.....

I was tempted to ride the clutch out to help the 60', but that is tough on the clutch.....I think I'm gonna stick with a 4000 launch, drop air pressure down a bit to like 15psi and just learn to plan my foot as the cluch comes out. That's what rev limiters are for right? The shift light has 6200 pill and I think the motor can go to 6400-6500 safely so, let her fly. I didn't put upgraded rod bolts in for the fun of it.
