to rebuild or not to rebuild

OK HERE IS MY QUESTION I have a 94 with a 3.4L i picked up from my boss for 500.00. Currently the car has 186,000 miles on it and does not start I know it needs a starter. Now that the weather is breaking i want to start cleaning it up.... should i just pull the motor now and rebuild it and start fresh????? if so i would want to get as much as i can get from the 3.4L which i know isnt alot but still...Does anyone have any spec for cams or anything they have done. thanks in advance

scot

well your right a 3.4 wont give u much power but it is a good little engine. After intake, headers, cam, rear, some suspension mods i have a fun car but its no v8. What r your plans for the car? daily driver?

i have a dodge ram as my dd and i rebuilt an 86 iroc that is almost done... I guess the 94 will just be a fun toy to drive on a nice day. Im not looking for v8 power just looking for the most power i can get while remaining fuel efficient( i know its alot to ask) oh and its an auto

Are you more interested in power or fuel economy or just picking up a little pep and be reliable?

There are a few ways to go about it with FWD heads and various aftermarket parts, just a matter of planning how much you wanna spend and how far you want it to go.

If you look on www.FullThrottleV6.com there are a few guys who have pushed the limits of the 60 degree motors pretty nicely. I know that there are FWD heads that are an improvement over the pieces the F-bodies got. Add in a little bit of cam, roller rockers, Port/clean up the intake castings, and swap on a little bigger TB. Nothing realy fancy since it is all stuff that will be apart for a rebuild anyway, but it would be a major improvement to the power output.

Social Networks:

There are a pretty good amount of aftermarket cams out there for the 60* v6 (2.8 / 3.1 / 3.4). Stick with one of the more mild off the shelf grinds from any of the major companies, or give them a call and tell them what you are looking to get out of the car and they might be able to set you up with a custom grind that fits your needs better.

If you are looking for something with some pep on the street and decent mileage, I would look for something mild that has good low and midrange torque.
