Question Cut-out confusion

I read this post in LS1tech:
http://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread...ht=fire+cutout

Now i kno it is b/c he didn't have cats (which i do), and it is b/c of the lack of cats that his exhaust was able to flame (just like you CAN'T install a flame thrower exhaust kit on a car with cats as the cats reburn the unburnt fuel).

However; i still don't want to risk my car becoming a true "Hot Rod". I want a cut-out so i can have full control over the sound of my exhaust. I found this turn-down online: http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/I...15000002011395. It looks like you just attach this to the end of the e-cutout and point the heat away from the body.

Is this my best bet?

to have control of the sound of my exhaust. I'm happy with my Magnaflow, but there r time i wish i was a little louder; but, they're also time's im glad it dowsn't scream and ring my head. I'm NOT spending $800+ on a Borla system; I was thinking of installing a cut-out in my I-pipe with a Mccord e-cutout with one of those trun-downs.

Oh, also, i want to avoid fire risk...of course...lol

Am i going the wrong direction with this?

No, I just wanted to be clear about what you wanted to do. A cut out on the I-pipe is a no brainer. No fire risk unless you fill the pipe with raw gas and then detonate it, which will only happen if A) You install a flame thrower) or B)Something is really wrong with your engine or PCM.

I have a 2.5" cut out and QTEC sitting in a box somewhere if you are interested in that, but it may be small for your exhaust size.

Cut-Outs go right before the muffler by the axle. Theres a bump in the passenger side that gives good clearance. I have a 3" I could sell you.

I wouldn't worry about flames, as long as your car runs good you'll be fine. I have an ORY and I don't think I've ever shot flames as far as I know.

that is kind of what i figured. i mean; he didn't have cats (or a muffler) and if he was running rich and backfired, the cats weren't there to prevent the flames. i was thinking of still hooking up that turn down after the cut-out anyway to direct the heat to the ground and what-not.

How much for the cut-out?
