too many parts... now what?

The time has come to clean out the garage, basement, backyard, attic, etc.
Over the past 15+ year I've accumulated hundreds of parts. It's now at the point that I no longer have the time to sort through them or even try to sell anything anymore. Plus I simply don't want to deal with it anymore.

I just don't know what to do about it though. The first and most likely option will be a large 20 yard dumpster and just toss stuff. The second option is to find someone that will take everything I give them as a whole lot, for free. The problem with the dumpster option is that it will cost several hundred dollars. The problem with the give away option is that people want certain items and want to pick through stuff and I'm not ok with that. It's all or nothing.
The third and probably best option is to get a dumpster but as I fill it, pull aside certain parts that I know will sell pretty easily and list/sell them to offset the cost of the dumpster. But once again, I really don't have the time to try to post/sell parts.

I'd being getting rid of 99% of my 4th gen parts stockpile. But I'd be holding onto anything third gen(since I have 2 '88 GTAs) and anything g-body. I'd also keep anything that can easily be retrofitted onto a 3rd gen such as ls1 front brakes.

Any suggestions as to what I should do? lol
Anyone want a ton of random 4th gen parts?

I know it's a lot of time and energy but perhaps you can find a local kid into cars, and hire them for $10 an hour to go through the parts and list things online. Maybe arrange them so that you can have a parts yard sale and post about it on a few forums? You may be able to break even on the dumpster this way.

The last two suggestions are both good. Additionally, Englishtown swap meet is a month out... could do a major liquidation/fire sale

Just list what you got, leave it outside when the weather is good. let people pick whatever they want up.

I like this idea. Make a few members bring a truck and everyone has to leave with it full. For every piece you want, you have to also take a piece that would be thrown away.

Is there a way you can do a pick and grab with a donation box? That way if someone takes a part, they throw a few bucks in a jar as a "thank you." There's no reason for it to go to the trash, and I think people would be happy to contribute for your work.

I know many of us on this board, OGs or not, have benefited from your services before for as little as a case of beer.

This is a good idea. Set a time limit and collect from the lock box each day.

Alternative is contact Hawks 3rd Gen and see if they have any interest in purchasing your entire lot.

i was going to say this.

I may have been up at Pauls more recently than anyone, and while it is not a mess by anymeans, the man is JAM PACKED with stuff.

I think it would be a good idea to let the club run threw some stuff first, heck there was a few things i was eying while i was up there myself.

Other alternative is to weld it up into a 4thgenasaurus for your front lawn. Would be quite the conversation starter.

Try to find another person who parts 4th gens as a side deal or business. There has to be another person in the area. Realistically that's the only person that'd take on everything in a lot like that.

Apparently the storm the other day helped make some decisions. A few large branches fell in my back fenced-in storage area. I had full 1/4 panels and other exterior parts back there. I am going to assume many of the parts are now damaged. 20 yd dumpster will be ordered Monday morning.

Good luck getting someone to buy the lot, I can barely get someone to take a hood. Also can I ditch a hatch in that dumpster? haha

I'm just tossing most of it. No time to deal with it really.
To throw out a hatch, put a tarp under it, smash the glass, roll up tarp and put in a trash bag, then sawzall each side of the frame and put out at the curb for trash pickup.
I'm getting a 20yd dumpster but I'm already thinking that's going to get full real fast. Especially since I have to clean out the old garage too and thats full of old landscaping junk.

That's a good idea to get rid of a hatch. I have the 1 from my second purple car still just laying against the side of my garage.
