Confused about Paint Codes

Originally I bought a dupli-color 5oz spray can to do some bodywork on my passenger side front fender. So I went to Pep Boys and looked in the book and (im sure) it said DSGM398. I used that to do all my body work, and now I went to paint my front Ground effects and the original can was empty so I went back to the same Pep Boys and looked in the book again and it said the code for a 5oz spray can was DSGM388 (I forgot to bring the original can with me, so I trusted the book) I found it but noticed that there was an "E" before the D but there was nothing about it in the book so I disregarded it.

When I got home I checked the old can and noticed the codes were different. I checked the paint code on my car and its 81U (Bright Red, and thats what both cans are also). I was confused so i went to the duplicolor site and looked up 2001 GM since thats all they had listed in their paint selector and the code it gave me for a 5oz spray can was DSGM276. Also looking through the list I noticed that DSGM398 has the clear coat already in it (I'm assuming thats what cc stands for after the color) edit: another wierd thing I went to a sub page on the site and clicked a different link for the paint selector and it brought me to another site (duplicolor.anothonylewis.com) with the same selector but it didnt have the CC when i looked up dsgm398

So now I have 3 color codes and dont know which one is correct, im confused as all hell.

My car is the same color
I used the Dupli color GM 398 for a few years until I started getting it in Quart cans from the body shop..

And for future reference just incase you can't find the Bright Red..
GM Bright Red and Rally Red are actually the same exact color except Gm changed the name in 2000
