6.5L Turbo Diesel

Hey guys it's been a while.

I recently purchased a 2001 f-250 7.3 diesel for my landscaping company and now I am in love with diesels.

I really need a dump truck, and I came across one on craigs list and this one is a Chevy. 6.5L diesel in a 1999 c/k 3500. The truck only has 75k miles on it, and the price is very low but it apparently needs a new injector pump. Anybody have an idea of what a replacement may cost? Also, are these trucks as reliable as other diesels? A quick google search reveals conflicting views about the truck which makes me nervous, but the price makes this truck very tempting.

Any advice or information about the 6.5 would be greatly appreciated.

injector pump alone is like $800-900 I think. We have a couple at work over 250k miles. One of the issues was on one, we relocated a control module off the manifold onto the fender well to keep it cool, or else it was shutting the truck off.

6.5l is a good strong running engine. besides that they are slow as balls, the injection pump is about the only thing that goes wrong with them. I'd rather replace a $1000 pump than have to spend $3000 & 12 hrs. labor installing injectors in a duramax...

I think you are thinking of early dmax engines, the detroits don't make enough power to overheat.

6.5 injector pump and the control module are the two biggest problems. They make relo kits for the module, but the pump is crazy in price.
