is this factory?

I've posted numerous times about my electrical problems so many of you probably remember (volts around 8 when accesories are on) alternator and battery are all fine, grounds are good, so I moved onto the harness. Also, Josh couldn't conenct to my ECM through the ALDL so theres a problem there too. Anyway, I was feeling ambitious and today I started checking out the wiring harness at the firewall where it goes through the pass. side inner fender and came across something. I know the guys brother who I bought the car from was an electrician and did some work on this car. I have another friend who was going to school for the same trade and I remember him twisting the wires together on his car like pictured...hmmm

I have seen that in factory harnesses before. Somebody else can confirm though.

both but the crimp is more of a concern. I havent seen anything in a factory harness like that before which is why I posted it but if it is factory I should make a new crimp because of the rust/corrosion. I'm guessing those are all grounds??

Look's factory to me. There was a recall on Sunfire's a few years ago for that. Poor crimp and they didnt seal the connection, all they did was wrap them in duct tape. They were having problems because of corrosion in the front headlamp harness.

And the twisted pair is factory also. They do that to reduce EMI usually on wheel speed sensors and audio circuits.

Even if it is factory it couldn't hurt to update it.

well thats unfortunate lol I guess I've worked with too many non-GM cars as far as harnesses go

edit: So I guess I should cut that out and do the same thing again but maybe solder it along with shrink wrap?

my car has the same splice. Are you sure the connection is faulty? unless its obviously loose there is no reason to assume that it is bad. Those twisted wires are not stock, something going on there.

IFRC they are from ECU they are for controling emission devices such as Canister purge, EGR and I not sure what else. It has to do with some kind of noise supression.
