2wd 4L60e -> 4x4 4L60e????

is it possible? easy?

im looking at a 4wd 96 fullsize tahoe, but trans slips in 3rd gear. id have to replace the trans right away but i want to know if i can use a regular 2wd 4L60e (from 95-97) and just swap the tail housing onto it from the current 4wd trans. id also probably buy a new converter to to be sure thats is ok inside. Could i use the converter that may come with the 2wd one?

i wouldnt be using the truck hard offroad or for towing while still having the orig. 2wd trans in it since i know the 4wd may be for heavier use. i just need the truck to go up to upstate NY and be able to drive in 4x4 mode in the insane lake effect snow we get.

anyone?? kinda need to figure this out asap.

or worst case scenario...how much ballpark do you think a rebuild would cost at a shop?

ah ok yea that makes sense. i wonder how hard it would be to swap a 4wd output shaft into a good 2wd trans though, maybe still less than a whole rebuild...

but i digress... im looking at a 94 fullsize blazer first so only if that falls through will this 96 be thought of.
