[pause] on RWD cars for GM?
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/10/l...icles-on-hold/
Quote:
"We've pushed the pause button. It's no longer full speed ahead," Lutz sounded the alarm. The new Camaro (due in 2008) and Impala sedan (2009) are meant to help GM out of its profit rut, but both are built on GM's large RWD platform and Lutz doesn't see a way to get 30% better gas mileage without a serious amount of investment (which would be passed on to consumers). Lutz declared it's too late to stop the Camaro, but said "anything after that is questionable,"

14. Cars that burn gas emit carbon monoxide (CO2), a green house gas, and people exhale carbon dioxide (CO), which is not. If Lutz and his people GM don't know the difference then they should go out of business!

Dont get upset, its nothing big. GM has invested way way way too much money into shutting down and retooling Oshaw for RWD. We will see Camaro, we will see Impala, as Camaro is damn near dependant on it.
G8 will still show up from Oz as well.
Its shaking the cages, Lutz saying to the enthuisats and the people with interest in the RWD program to do what you can to revoke this 30% reduction in consuption, or bad things will happen. In reality, everything is already set for 2011 at this point. Anything after that is a toss up. What they have to worry about is 10 years ahead of time when you factor in 3-4 year development cycle plus 6 year life span.
There is working moving foward on Alpha, which will be a smaller RWD platform that will mostly be used by Pontiac and Holden, as well as parts of Opel, perhaps Saturn as well and even a small 3 series fighter for Caddy.
