Scrapping question.

Hey guys,

Excuse the stupid question, but has anyone cut up a car to take it to the scrap yard? If so, did they give you grief over titles or anything?

Reason I ask is, I parted out my 2000 Subaru Outback. I've sold enough parts that I can't really justify keeping the whole car. So, I'm in the process of stripping off parts that were asked for, and or parts that could be sold. Then I will just get rid of the shell. I need to get rid of it so I can be ready to bring in a new daily.

I'd bet that the local junk man may charge me to take it away at this point. Only real usable part left in it is the diff out back. I stripped off the hatch, remaining doors, hood, and a host of interior trim pieces and the seats. Idea I had was I would keep some of the parts around for a few more months then if no one buys them, the remaining parts will get scrapped.

But I need that shell gone. I have access to a sawzall which is all one would really need.

Alright guys, I'll cut it up and bring up the remains. I won't say anything, I guess if they don't ask they don't ask. If they ask then I'll show them the title.

Just curious. if you have the title, why are you worried about if theyll ask you for it?

A subaru title and vin tag hap-hazardly affixed to the windshield cowl of a camaro will lower his insurance premiums 47%...lol.

LOL!!!! Hmmm..........

Actually truth be told...I think the GTA cost less to insure by a few bucks over the Subaru. LOL!! If I recall the Subaru was 64 or 65 or something. The GTA is 61 a month. If y'all are shocked, don't ask, I'm not complaining. Not like I am an angel on the roads myself.

My mom brought up the title thing, she said I have a title so whats the point of worrying about it. I guess I am thinking I don't want the hassle.

George's Salvage (local scrap yard for you) generally doesn't ask questions as long as it isn't suspicious. If you drove the car their and told them to crush it, it would raise a flag. If you brought an old/smashed up/parted out/burned/etc car they don't care. Also if the car is newer than like 2002, they ask for a title.

The scrap bill requiring a title was passed for cars that were stolen for nothing more than scrap value.

I don't think it's too bad. I haven't been on that side of the house to be honest.

Considering I have the title and its in my name...it is likely gonna be a non issue. Considering that I am cutting up the shell anyway to make it fit in the Bronco, they might just see it as scrap metal. But regardless, nothing like a lil car bash for some fun... I did better with the part out than I would have done trading it in.

Worst case is they will take your name address and number with a positive description of the car. Year, make and model

Check youtube and crash tests done on a 3rd gen....you'll see why the premiums are lower..you won't be filing any claims if you hit anything larger than a squirrel w/a cowlick...you is done.

I think I saw that pic before Scott. Thanks for the input guys. The Bronco we have is so full we can't close the window. I'll need to take a couple trips anyway. My brother and I tore the car apart today, we go it to the point where its only the firewall, strut towers, rear shock towers and the floor as well as parts of the chassis underneath. Not bad for a full day's thrash. Hopefully I'll finish chopping it up tomorrow. Want to get it cleared out so I can put the GTA back in its parking spot and have the ability to put the new car in the driveway.
