General Event Info

hey gang,
we are going to hold our anniversary meet on a very big scale to say teh least.
on august 14, 2005 we will be at island dragway in Â*great meadows, nj (www.islanddragway.com).
we are in the process of planning drag racing, car show, prizes and give aways, vendors, and many other events for our day at the track.
as of right now we are looking into a bracket racing program with 4 or 5 classes and possible a heads up class if we can come up with a fair set of rules.
for the car show we are thinking about 4 major classes(one class for each generation) with several special prizes available as well.

there is a lot to come in the next several weeks and months, so keep an eye on this forum.

i will get as much of the tentative information as we currently have in the next 2 days.

one thing that will be very important as we go forward is member feedback. this event is for you guys, tell us what you would like to see and we will do our best to get it for you.

thanks
tim

Think you can gather enough support to fill a class? Or do you just want a place for you and James to show off?

good photographer for launching/burnout shots

maybe a generation divided class for the racing and then a final heads up of the winners of those generations for fun?

any food vendors there or eating the track food?

trophies being handed out for car show/racing?

anyone taking video to make a DVD possibly of the show and racing?

there are other suggestions but i woudlnt want it to get "ricey"

how about a heads up class on street tires and i don't mean mt drag radials i mean
real sreet tires this way you will know who is the fastest on the streets the way we drive every day with real street tires. and a heads up for slicks. i think this would be a intresting class to see how fast a 10 sec. car is on street tires.

another idea, if its ok with the track maybe somone would want to sell food for the club, itd def be a smaller price then the track and the proceeds could go towards the club.

will there be a flea market/swap meet there for people also? if you sold a spot you could get more money together that way.

the track will be rented out all day i take it? or will we jsut have our own lanes?

Hopefully I'll be able to take something home for show. Remember that hood i was searching for a while back, and nobody had any ideas where to find it. On thirdgen.org, i found a guy who says he manufactured that hood, and he may have some left over. if it works out, great, if not, oh well...but yea. I'll work on my show.

personally i wouldnt want to see a car doing 130+ in the 1/4 on street tires...that would be a receipe for disaster imo...i could see them hitting 3rd gear and going directly into a wall.

i agree with foff, youll never see my RS on street tires, just isnt worth my life or ride in my opinion, not to say you cant spill out on slicks, but its less likely

I don't believe any selling of food outside of what the track provides will be permitted.

This hasn't been discussed yet, but I don't beleive there will be much room at the track for anything more than what we have planned so far.

Yes, we have the entire track rented from 8:30am till early evening (6PM I think).

no grill please. the track has a refreshment stand if you want a burger or something. if you want to bring a cooelr or somehting that is cool. but they don't allow grills or any other type of open flames.

Anyone planning to bring their families? Wives, girlfriends, flavor of the month, kids? I won't race, but I'd like to view the cars up for judging. My oldest daughter understands the words Trans Am now, so it's a good time to start some memories.

Anyone bringing familes, please shout out. Getting the kids and significant others together goes a long way towards participating in future events.
