alternator wires

two wires coming from the plug for the alternator (red and tan/white stripe) go along the valve cover and meet up with the injector wires and go down the back of the block to a "Y" junction of more wires. From here, where do they go? I've checked out a few diagrams but I can't find the wiring for the alternator and battery.

I put a smaller pulley on the alternator thinking that would help my volts issue at idle with accessories on etc but it didn't help at all. I also tried putting an external ground on the alternator and that didn't help either. I'm completely stumped.

For any new readers: (The car has a new ECM, new battery, alternator was checked, all grounds have been cleaned and/or upgraded to thicker wire where possible, including the battery to alternator wire.)

Tan is idiot light

Red should got to "the splice"

See the wiring diagrams in the link.

What is idle voltage? Did you verify that with a volt meter at the alt itself? Are your body/engine grounds all there? Has the alt been load tested in the car (not the bench at the store)?

I looked at the diagrams in the link and from what I can read I don't see the alternator or battery there. At idle with headlights on, brakes on, and blinker the guage shows around 12 and dipping in conjunction with the flash of the blinker. My interior dome light also dims in conjunction with the blinker even without any accesories on. I verified this at the battery and the alternator was bench tested at autozone but hooked up to a belt and everything. I've also had a brand new alternator tested on the car and nothing was different.

Ted my 89 did it if it makes ya feel better! I think the 93 did untill I relocated my battery and thus rewired the alt and all the connections between to the battery. Hell it may still do it, lol.

Put LEDs in your blinkers!
