How to derail future plans for the camaro...
blow up your jetski, thats how!
Almost made it back to shore on 1 cylinder, but I had stalker nick tow me in to save the rest of the motor. I did a compression test this morning and knew something wasn't right.

I'm probably just gonna unload it. Don't feel like dropping the $$ on a 13 year old ski

I put one of the ProTek wakeup kits on the Yamaha 650 motor that was in my old 93 Boston Whaler Rage jet boat and when I pulled the head off it was one of the cleanest motors I've ever seen. I was worried that the mods would hurt the motor but it actually started easier and ran better with the mods. I always ran 93 octane pre mix in it though. That really doesn't look too bad overall but it obviously needs help. Were you or the previous owner running regular gas because the piston looks pretty clean?

It wasn't the gas that killed it. Yamaha has a sophisticated exhaust system that uses valves in the combustion chamber that open up when 3/4 throttle is reached. The thing is, they are known to fail and fall apart, and after 155 hrs, that's what happened. I'm leaning towards fixing it. Nick gave the name a shop in NY that sells rebuilt motors with a 2 year warranty for a reasonable price.

I just got my 1200 motor back from Pwcengine, the number Nick probably gave you, and he did a great job. He took a little longer than expected but the ski runs great now. I have 4 or so hours on the new motor and all is well. 1300 dollars said and done. I dropped it off and picked it up to save on shipping. It sucks but I had the same thing happen to me on my second ride of the year.

yea i was just on the phone with him earlier today. It'd be about the same price for me too. I'm leaning towards just unloading the ski.

Maybe you shut your engine off in time so that you can get away with just one new cylinder and piston? Then sell it?
