The turd is nearing completition

This truck has been through hell... been totaled a few times and I just can't seem to let it die.

Near done redoing the body panels, bushings, sway bar links, all other wear parts, maintenance parts, etc.

I have a pile of receipts in my drawer that total well over $3,000 at this point in 2 months. I wanted to get it professionally painted and had a moment of stupidity and busted out the truck bed coating and painted the entire truck with it. I can't figure out why I keep spending more money on this thing than it's actually worth. (I must be into the truck for about $10,000 by now lol).

Next step is some tires, gears and nurf bars. Leaning towards selling it after the winter but I might hunt for a 6.0 or vortec 8.1 and fab up a rear mount turbo.

I have a few reasons for not going to a diesel motor. I don't want any problems with the police/DOT/etc. The punks with the stacks and black smoke ruined diesel pick ups for me.

I think it would be ten times funnier to have a a big lifted truck with a gas motor that can crank 500 horses and 600+ ft lbs line up against a car/diesel truck at a light. It would pack quiet a punch in a truck that weighs no more than 4,500-4,700lbs when all is said and done. Gear it very low (like 5.13s) and leave in 4WD (and say goodbye to the 10 bolt).

15in wheels. Theyre on 6 lug black wagons. Tires are like 85% zero dry rot and the spare is like 30 or 40%

$600.

A 38/39in set of radials is gonna cost you some serious dough. Friggin 33s for my trooper were $850...

How much will it cost to get 500 hp and 600 ft lbs out of a gasser? i know with a duramax its a push of a button. I always said that gas wasnt much different then diesel until i bought my duramax. Added a few cheap goodies and will never buy another gas

You are comparing two totally different worlds.

500 horses and 600 ft lbs at the crank with a 8.1 liter motor can more than likely be done with a rear mount turbo setup (which doesn't seem all that terribly hard to fabricate), retune and probably injectors.

With a new GENIII/GENIV gasser? Alot of money. Full engine build a lot of money.

Personally Im not a diesel savvy guy, I like them but have never owned one, but I'll tell you something. I think all these guys that bought these tuners to crank the injection pump are gonna be sorry once the truck actually has 100,000 miles tuned like that and the motor is nearly shot.

A GOOD efiLive tune, will drastically lower EGT and if you do not be an idiot with either a roll coal tune or 150hp tune, it will prob help extend the life of your turbo, trans, and engine.

A stock LLY is 310/605, with 15mpg and a nice easy idle.... do that with a gasser, and not on a million bucks.

Do they even make good performance parts for the Vortec 8100?

Last I checked there was a reason nobody with an old Camaro, Chevelle, or Nova was swapping them in and that was because of a lack of aftermarket support.

Yes and no. No in the sense that they dont make any improvements for the top end. Yes in the fact that you can put MKIV heads on it.

They do but there aren't that many nor are they as effective as they are for, say, a 454, due to a lack of R&D.
