gear install price?

I'm curious how much the shops around here in central jersey charge for gears? I had a shop quote me 900 installation and parts. I've called whiplash several times, bu no one ever picks up the phone to get a quote cause they are 5 minutes from me.

In car vs bringing in just the housing probably impacts the price. I'd suggest calling both places and discussing details

300 is good, go w/ JS. I had them installed in my 97 LT1 over ten years ago and paid 500+.

Eh, there's no way he's making $$$ on that install, if people aren't making $$$ then they're taking shortcuts. I'm sure I'll get blasted for that comment since he's a sponsor but sometimes the cheapest isn't always the best. Just sayin'

Like I mentioned before, you don't know the details of those estimates and therefore have no idea what you are comparing so I'd suggest you you dial it back.

Nice edit tough guy. I see what you did there

Delete my post please...I shouldn't haven't even posted what I did, I forgot adding an opinion that's probably right can rock the boat.

Absolutely, a 2yr old number that had a fellow member intrigued. I was just looking out for him.

No, we’re going to leave it for it’s educational value.

I've got 7+ years experience in the service business that tells me it is hard to compare estimates without details. Truth is you have no idea if you are right because you don’t have facts. And that is the lesson here. You need to get facts and then you can make an educated assessment.

I’ve got 5 estimates on my desk right now for a new roof on my house. They range from $7000 to $8900. Now I have to decide what the differences are, as each one lists different steps being taken – such as who is getting permits, disposal, fixing soffits, different brand materials, etc. My point is if the simple question is “new roof” then either the $7000 guy is cutting corners or the 8900 guy is gouging me. But when I look into the details of the bids the picture is certainly different.

Fair enough, you're right. It could very well just be the ring/pinion install with no bearings and stuff.

I was just looking out for people that's all, I've never dealt with that vendor, no idea how he runs his business nor do I dislike him....was just speaking from looking at it at face value, knowing what it takes to replace those parts and the labor involved doing it the correct way.

I don't see anyone on this board saying anything bad about SSP's work, I've only gotten good feedback on their service. If I lived up that way I'd given them a call. Josh does great work as well and I'd certainly take my stuff to him.

Do they also tune? I just looked up their address and they are a lot closer than I thought.

...nevermind...I saw in his profile that he does for 250. I guess i will be giving him a call today.
