If anyone is wondering. I ended up having a shop install the transmission for me. I was looking at paying this one junkyard $550 for a trans and doing the work my self. Then last minute found another junkyard that had one for $300 and said for another $300 they would install it. Being the $50 difference my dad talked me into letting them install it.
That being said the car was fine for a little over a week. Then last Sunday i heard what sounded like my exhaust rattling. Yesterday i finally had time to climb under the car. To my suprise the exhaust was fine. Started the car climbed back under and realized the sound was coming from my bellhousing. Took the car to the place that did the trans. When they removed the cover. They found a peace of my starter broken off inside it. Told me thThat they never removed the starter when doing the transmission and that it wasn't their issue that it broke.
This damn car just wants to bleed me dry latly. A starter is $150 lol. Sooo any advice on installing a starter in this freezing cold weather?

Corvette starter, gear reduction. Cool noises. Other then that, its a sbc starter. 2 bolts and 2 wires and huzzah

Whats diff between the corvette and fbody starter? Any advice for removing or installing with out removing the ypipe?

Gear reduction. Smash has a thread on here. Google as well. The stock y is an issue? Should clear with a little effort.

Like Adam said, get one for a 1996 Corvette Grand Sport, it's a bit more compact and puts out more torque. Fbody is larger, heavier and last time I looked cost more.
Vette Starter P/N 17124 (duralast) $121 + shipping
Fbody Starter P/N DL9989S (duralast) $140 + shipping
They have acdelco also for like 15-25$ more. I've had no issues with my autozone vette Starter though.
It will take you longer to jack the car up than to change the starter. A shop will charge $250-350 easily.

Advancec auto in lakewood on new hanpshire ave had 1 in stock a while ago. Still may since i doubt anyone needed one haha

The advance in toms river has one.
By looking at the pictures of the vette starter. My broken starter should be fine. But i guess they are built different?
So do i just pull the trans cover off and pull the starter thru there or ??

pull cover off? the starter isn't bolted to the block in front of the trans like any other SBC?
My truck and my 77 both have that GM gear reduction type of starter, they bolted up like any other starter.

Nope. Undo two bolts going up into the block and slide starter back. Lower down and undo the power and signal wires or disconnect wires first if you can. Don't forget to disconnect the battery first!

Lmao i know to do that but your reply assumes there isnt a car on the way. These in's would be great if it was on an engine stand.

Do you not have a stock setup or something? The starter is next to the oil pan, the exhaust is next to the starter. It'll clear without issue. I think you are overthinking this. Not only would it not fit through the opening to the trans, there is a flexplate in the way

Shorties with a aftermarket Y pipe will be a struggle to clear the LT4 starter.
Either way its prob one of the easiest things to replace on the underside of the car.

Ok you guys were right was deff over thinkng it. But between the freezing cold weather and going thru a screwy breakup. Iv been over thinking alot lately. Anyways the noise the vette starter makes is gona take alot of getting use to. Lol
