anyone have an idea's on a cheap sprayable paint that wont peel or chip in less than a year?

i was looking at duplicolor solid shades

i dont have the time or the money to do the nocturne blue and bird/trim

so i was just gonna paint it a solid color

hugger orange, orbit orange, carousel red, was thinking of sublime green, but, that would look rediculous

any color suggestions or paint suggestions? lol

i suggest you prime the car and keep it there until you are ready to paint it

no, i have a sprayer, but im pretty sure it wouldnt do a metallic job that well

im just considering painting it a solid color for the time being

if you have a spray gun........and want to do a basic color go to your local paint supplier and ask them what they can recomend, that way they will also be able to provide you the proper prep supplies for the job.

you also have to make sure your air compressor will be enough to maintain power to the gun so the spray is even throughout the job

if you buy a can, you will still need the proper flex agent, sealant, clear, etc.

some of the kits come with it, some dont, i dont know too much about paint

i dont know about quality of the duplicolor stuff, but i have read about the kits and from what i have seen and heard, their instructions for mixtures as well as tech support seems pretty good

I dont know about the paints durability. But you might be able to get more out of it by getting a good auto primer. Primer is very reasonable even on a very tight budget and redused a gal might make 2 gal. depending on type and manu. Also a couple of cans of plastic adhesion promotors for the front and rear bumpers will help with the paint stay. Cant gaurantee how well the dupli and car primer will adhere to each other but with the primer you prob will get the best bond for what you want to do. Napa paint is also prob preetty cheap. As long as you put the effort in with the prep work it prob turn out ok if not decent. On a side note I had spraypainted my 81 camaro with john deer spraypaint. The yellow and black both held up well for over a yr. than I wanted different colors so used silver and blue. The john deer blue faded in a couple of months. Its gonna be hit or miss. I wish you luck and let us know if it works out.

if you don't have that much to spend why not look into a Maaco job. Do the prep work yourself as well as the disassembly and you should be fine.

i was going to do that on my old bird, but they said they have to do the prepwork themselves to "keep a good reputation"
i was like ********
idk, they guy who sold me it said he has a friend whos good, if it isnt too much i might do that, but ill most likely do it myself

post a pic of its current status and let some of us painters/resto guys look at it and point ya in the right direction. If you were in south jersey I would help ya out and spray it for now. But its gonna end up costing you so much to strip it down in the future.

At least try to use a PPG or BASF single stage if your gonna do it yourself to make it easy on ya

My friend did a Dupliclor single stage job on his Jeep, it came out really, really nice. Its only been 6 months or so since he did it, and its held up very well to the elements and to trails.

yeah, im not goin hardcore 5 coats, just one coat

im probly going to hammer out the fender and bondo it tommorow, the rest of the car is pretty solid, just minor rust here and there, and the floors are solid
drivetrain is sound and interior is pretty good, the body just needs straightening out and paint
most of the decals have been removed except the bird, im trying to figure how to take it off in one piece

Why are you concerned about taking the decal off in one piece?

i was using an orbital sander, and for the smaller decals it takes them off pretty evenly, but im afraid the bigger one will leave gouges, cause who ever owned this car previously had a thing for putting stickers on it, and i had sanded some off previously, and it left 2 gouges, and easy fix, but the bird covers most of the hood

Another cheap option, roll on paint. Hot Rod and Super Chevy both did it for under $100 and it looks like it turns out pretty good from the pictures.

I'd spray a coat of sealer over that laquer paint first so you don't erupt it. Dupont Centari is fairly inexpensive, single stage, and buffs well.

You cannot seal lacquer.....either paint over it with lacquer or strip it down to bare metal. End of story.

lacquer plus other paints is asking for trouble dont do it. just do what you can with the body (get a new fender its needed your never gonna get that straight) and spot prime it.
