What would 2 brand new Olds 455 crate engines be worth?

I did some searching but cant seem to find anwhere crate Olds 455 motors. These are still in the crates from a GM liquidation in 1980 ish. I understand with items like this its hard to judge but what would be a ballpark figure? I can get numbers next weekend if that matters. I believe they are for late 70's 442's but I am not 100% sure.

I would imagine that the value would vary greatly based on the specs of the engines. Far less for a couple of mid-late 70s yawners as compared to a late 60s beast.

I concur, I think these may be the low compression motors. I want to get the numbers next weekend and list one on ebay but I am unsure of the reserve or starting bid.

Let me know if you find anything else about them. My buddy is huge into Oldsmobiles and has 2 1970 442s with 455s and is active on Oldsmobile boards.

you have 2 buyers

1) folks who want / need a new 455.

Wont pay alot, but figure 500 for a core and 3500-5k for machine work and parts to rebuild including labor to rebuild

2) Purist and #'s restorers
Will pay the most if and only if the numbers are what they need.

doubt you will fetch 5k for them though.

I would take one to complete the 455 collection. have a buick and a few ponchos currently. I really have no immediate use for one though.

If they are real 442's I believe the heads alone are in the ballpark of $10K.

So $10 K might be a little high, but they are up there.

Actual 442 W-30 heads go for around $10,000 because they're so rar

Are they sure the dates are 68 and not 78? Those sound like early production 455's if they are 68. They could be worth a lot parted out depending on what the casting numbers and dates are on all the components. I would try to verify the year is correct by getting the casting numbers on the blocks and heads.

Not sure he comes to this board much anymore. Creamsiclez97 is heavy into the early olds. let me know and I'll PM you his E-mail address. He can probably tell what the engines are.

Ok, it's been a long time, But I think until 1970 the 442 was a 400CI engine, only the Hurst/Olds had the 455 in 68+69. If those are 1968 455s engines they're probably for a big car like the Delta 98 or Wagon. but if they are some type of performance engine then they might be special H/O replacements, they could be worth a ton?

I do remember there were 2 codes for the performance engines, and this might be backwards, but the 455 came in two flavors, hydo cam and solid: I think W25 was the hydro cam, the W30 was the solid. Other then the cam the engines were same. The solid cam had too little vacuum for power brakes, operate the AC vents etc. So a 442 could have either the W25 or W30, but the 455 powered Cutlass SX would have the W25/ hydro cam.

Ahhh, the good old days,,,,

I always thought the W-30 was the engine code but someone once told me it is a trim code.

My memory is a bit fuzzy but I think it's neither. I think it's a package, like SS or RS.
