WEB RESERVES

Helping Hand For Haulers SEMA Action Network (SAN) Issues Online Guide to Motorsports Racing Trailer Laws
Racing enthusiasts may sometimes be issued a citation because their trailer is too long, the tow vehicle does not have a DOT number, or for other related issues. The SEMA Action Network (SAN) website now provides guidance on how to avoid these situations. Adding to a stout arsenal of web-based legislative tools, a new resource was created to help the motorsports community understand state and federal laws governing trailers and tow vehicles. The material is posted in the “RESOURCES” menu under “Motorsports Trailers”. Here is a direct link.

When issued, citations generally fall within two categories: 1) the size of the trailer violated state law, or 2) the vehicle/trailer combination was considered “commercial” by enforcement authorities but had not been registered with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) or a state-equivalent agency. As you will see, the webpage divides the resource material into three sections: a comparison of state laws, folders containing laws/regulations for each individual state, and an explanation of federal laws triggered by commercial activity or vehicle weight. As the 2016 season approaches, hopefully this information will help racers of all types better prepare for the journey ahead.

SEMA SAN Strike Force

Tom Cox was among the very first members of the SEMA Action Network (SAN) when it was founded in 1997. The Roanoke, Virginia native has teamed with the SAN on multiple occasions to advance pro-hobby legislation in the Old Dominion. Now, he will take his turn as a television personality beginning this weekend on a brand new series: THE APPRAISERS.
Tom Cox is more than qualified to offer valuation on vehicles, particularly of the vintage variety. A founding member of the SEMA Action Network (SAN), Cox is also past president of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA), an AACA Senior Master Judge and a member of the AACA National Awards Judging Team. He is also the co-founder of the Virginia Association of Car Councils and serves on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Museum of Transportation. This weekend, his skills will be put to the test on a new automotive television series called THE APPRAISERS.

Described as the “Classic Car Guy” among the trio of hosts, Cox is proud of the finished product. He humbly relates that the show “actually gets a lot better episode to episode.” According the program’s website, the show “cruises across America in search of rare, cool, classic and super sexy automotive dreams. Each episode showcases new finds for the auto enthusiast world, and the excitement builds as the hosts reveal how much each owner's pride and joy is worth. Included are antiques, classics, muscle, luxury and exotic cars, old trucks, motorcycles and automotive memorabilia.”

Watch the series debut on Saturday, December 5, at 8:00pm EST on the Velocity Channel. Make sure to check your local listing for any schedule variations. To learn more, visit the show’s official website at www.appraiserstv.com and “Like” them on Facebook: www.facebook.com/TheAppraisers

Congratulations, Tom, and as they say in showbiz—“break a leg
