saw a C6 at the track today...

I was at Englishtown running time trials, they had a Vette event goin on too. there was a guy with a BRAND-NEW (i'm talking still had the dealer tags on) C6 vette...i think he was takin it easy on the car, he only ran a 13.7. i bet it was the owner of a dealership or something, he probably has a ton of them just lying around.

i must say, it is a VERY good-looking car. more exotic-looking than the C5. the pictures i've seen online don't do it justice, you have to see one in real life.

kewl. they are nice looking cars, performance is unmatched for the price, and since it is a LSx based engine platform and the same series transmissions and rear the aftemarket presence is already strong. gonna be interesting to watch how fast someone will get one into the 9's

later

I went to the corvette assmebly plant in Kentucky and took a tour a couple of weeks ago, and I saw about 25 c6's already done and several getting put together. It was AWESOME. I even got to see the first 3 convertibles off the line that were just made(according to the tour guide). The c6's are one hell of a beautiful car! It was pretty cool seeing how they put it together and then them testing it. They take every corvette on a 1/4 mile drag strip there after its gone through testing, but of course, it was blocked off and no one was allowed to watch. AND the tour guide didn't even understand why we would want to see it! Silly him. It was the best part of my trip to Kentucky! Well, besides buying my formula out there.

That was Cartek's new C6 'shop/project car' at E-town Saturday...it ultimately ran a 13.1@109 with less than 500 miles on it, in bad air and greasy track conditions.

i didn't think the air was too bad...it helped me shave off another 2 tenths off my projected time. the track was a lil slippery though, i got some bad wheel hop on two out of my 4 runs.

BTW, did you see how badly those exotics ran?

13.1 at 109? WHOA, someone tell Cartek to get the 12 year old out of the car when they test it.

Rags are getting 12.7@113mph. If car rags can get 12.7, YOU BETTER be getting low/mid 12's out of a group of "enthusiasts".

it WAS brand-new...i don't think they'd wanna screw it up, especially if it was their shop car.

Screw it up? There are C5's that run sub 13's, with 50 less hp, and 150 more lbs!! 12.7 should be a cake walk with more power. Even Motorweek got 112mph out of the C6.

I didn't get to see them run though I did see them gathered around...what were some of their times for say the Ferrari Modenas or the Mercedes SL55s?

Well they really didn't want to smoke the clutch or kill the car (had less than 500 miles on it, not fully broken in) but the main issue seemed to be the torque management (even with traction control off it was still acting as if it were still on ) not allowing a full burnout...not sure how the magazines did it.
This particular C6 (well optioned) is not 150 pounds lighter than the average C5 for some reason, it weighs 3450 pounds with driver.
But you're right, if a mainstream car mag (not sure what kind of air they had) can run a 12.7@113 then in private hands the cars should see 12.4s easy.

those were 360 Spyders, not Modenas. Modenas are the hardtop 360's.

anyway, there were two SL55's, one Dodge Viper GTS ACR, two Ferrari 360 Spyders, one Porsche 911 turbo, a '50s supercharged Chevy, and a late '60s Corvette vert. here's what they ran:

SIlver SL55 : 12.8 (i think)
Black SL55 : 12.9
Viper GTS: 12.6 (quickest out of their group) he was spinning all the way past 60'.
here's where it started to get ugly...
'60s Vette : there was a chick driving it. The tree goes green, and she sputters off the line. EVERYONE along the wall started yelling at her, telling her to use the accelerator. she got into it about 1000' down the track. she ran a 17.2.

'50s SC'd Chevy : idk what model it was, i'm not big on the early Chevy's. it looked nice, big blower sticking out of the hood, purple with ghost flames, BIG drag radials and a wheelie bar. too bad he spun wildly off the line, and ran his way to a 13.7.

yellow 360 Spyder : doesn't even bother spinning the tires. Rolls though the staging beams. backs up, gets the staging right. Tree turns green, and he rolls slightly forward before jumping on it. He actually waited for the light to turn green before going. R/T must've been like a 1.5 or something. he ran a 13.9.

blue 360 Spyder : he DOES spin the tires, gets 'em a lil warmed up. Porsche 911 is next in line behind him. as they tell the Porsche to come up to the box while the Ferrari is staging, the Porsche rolls through the box, and lines up next to the Ferrari, thinking they're gonna race IN THE SAME LANE. the whole time, the exotics were going one at a time, but this guy was obviously not paying ANY attention whatsoever. the Porsche backs up while being booed by everyone in attendance, while the Ferrari bogs off the line and runs a wonderful 13.9.

silver Porsche 911: this genius rolls up to the staging beams, and promptly rolls right through them. the guys on the track are shaking their heads, wondering just how stupid this guy can get. he backs up again, deep stages, and bogs off the line. runs a low 14.

that was the end of that....i've never seen the potential of these cars wasted so badly. the only guys who ran decently were the SL55's and the Viper. moral of the story : just because you spend $200,000 on your car, doesn't mean you know how to drive.

Yeah? I knew those were Spyders but I thought that they were all (all F360s that is) still considered Modenas as well, I didn't realize that Modena designated 'hardtop only'.

That is crazy how those guys have no clue on the drag strip, I mean we know they don't go there often (or at all!) but at least they could figure out how to launch their 'supposedly fast' cars better LOL.
I wonder if they just shrugged it off and poked fun at all the 'simple people with their Buicks and Corvettes' as if they were all 'Michael Schumachers' or something, or hopefully they gained some respect for the art/sport of drag racing.

spyder means its a vert. Modena is the name of the car itself.

it was kinda hard to miss, they had a fat white chick and two asian kids filming them the whole time. usually these morons with the cameras would run out into the road as i was driving back to the staging lanes. i had to stop at least 4 times for them.

This is also what I'd thought for the last 5 years
