IIRC the 91 is an electric speedo and the 87 is cable driven.

So, you were able to put the '91 cluster in an '87?

Did you swap the whole dash, or did you just ghetto-fab the old cluster into the 91 dash?

If possible I want to use a '91-'92 style dash, but keep the '89 cluster to avoid the hassle of the electonic cluster.

Ummmmm wasn't the 89 dash electronic, or are you talking digital? I know mine was. Pretty sure the 91-92 dash is unique though

Yes, the '91-'92 Camaro dash is unique and different from the '89 Camaro. My '89 has the cable speedometer. I like the updated style of the '91-'92 dash, but I have to sort out the electronic speedometer.

you need a buffer box out of a 86-90 bird, it a yellow box with a bunch of wires and then you need the VSS. dont bother looking for a buffer box in a 91-92, they are incorporated inside the ecms on those.

This is behind the gauges or under the dash in the Firebirds? The local yard has several Firebirds so hopefully I can locate one.

Yup, and bright yellow. about 1/2" to 3/4" tall. just a small circuit board inside.

There is a yellow box on this '90-'92 Camaro dash that I picked up @ the junk yard. Not sure what it is for. It's on the driver's side.

i'm gonna say thats for the airbag. 90-92 were speed density TPI systems that ran off the 730 ecm, the 3.1v6 also used the 730 just with a different chip. those car had the buffer in the 730, so i am almost positive the didnt have the part u need.

The sensor is under the lower dash panel on the passenger side, right near the PCM
