Question about LT4 conversion...

Someone help me settle this arguement I am having with a friend...I brought up the idea of me doing an LT4 conversion come wintertime...and he said his stock LS1 TA would still be faster...i was surprised and asked him why...and he said that the LT4 would only put out about 305 hp...

So someone help me out here...what power numbers would I be looking at if i did an LT4 conversion...this would be LT4 heads, cams, rockers, and intake...

my friends 97 lt4 camaro ss dynoed in the area of 380 with just ignition and exhaust and ran 12.4 in the 1/4. We still think his car is a freak though, but i think a mildly modded LT4 would beat a stock LS1, JMO

I remember reading a while back that a fresh LT4 would make 330ish hp with factory intake/exhaust. I can see that number jumping way up with a CAI and full exhaust though....

I say it would be a close race.

You have to remember.... the LT4 in the Corvette came with a cam that is not much bigger at all than the stock LT1 cam. The "LT4 Conversion Kit" comes with the LT4 HOT cam, which is a bit more aggressive than the stock LT4 cam.

MORE Performance tested the LT4 conversion kit back in 1998 or so, and got 429 flywheel HP on an engine dyno. I think that was sort of optimistic, because it also included LT headers, larger TB, larger injectors, and was tuned using a $3,000 aftermarket engine management computer. I also doubt they had any of the accesories installed on the front of the engine.

I don't think it would be unreasonable to see at least 400-420 flywheel HP out of the "conversion", so that would put you around 330-350rwHP in an A4 and 345-365rwHP with an M6.

LT4 vs a good running 6spd LS1 is a good race...6spd LS1's still dyno more, especially 01-02's....I wouldnt waste your money on a LT4 setup, cost way to much for the power it gives you...Llyold Elliot Heads and Cam packages is inexspensive (compared) and will yield you more power.

Like Injuneer said it is a different cam inthe conversion kit. Don't let the specs of the "little" cam fool ya, it runs well. I'd say at least 400 Flywheel horse or more with it. With the hotcam you should be able to beat up on a stock LS1 without too much effort at all. I have the identical cam specs in my LS1 (LS1 hotcam) and it made 385 to the wheels with stock heads so don't underestimate the hotcams.
