Help in finding a reputable performance shop

Hi,
Forgive me for my lack of knowledge in mechanics etc. Hopefully I will learn a few things as time passes. I recently bought a 94 Z28. It had no cats on it so it wouldn't pass inspection. I had two "universal catalytic converters" put in with O2 sensors. The headers already had O2 sensors in them. The car passed inspection. The down side is it is quiet as a mouse. Before the cats were installed it had a real nice sound. I also think that I may have lost some power (this is just my impression I may be wrong) but it doesn't "jump" like it did before when you tap the throttle. So for my next question, where do I go from here? I believe that from the muffler back it may be stock if that is possible (just a guess). Any input as to what I can do to bring the car back to "life"? I live in Monmouth county NJ but I don't know of any reputable exhaust places. Any suggestions?
Thanks for any input.
Be well.

Get true duals

I just had mine installed by Thrust Performance in South Amboy. They did a great job and it sounds amazing. I'll have a thread about it when I upload the pics

Get under your car and see whats on it.

I sure hope you didn't pay for rear o2 sensors.

True duals is very unnecessary for his application. I single 3" is cheaper and is just fine.

putting catalytic converters in will definitely change the sound and reduce horsepower of your camaro.

i wouldnt worry about the horsepower though supposedly its only 3-4 horsepower...but the tickets for that are outrageous i hear and it saves you the hassle of finding a private inspector to 'inspect' and pass your car..

The sound will certainly change, but adding cats will not make any noticeable change in performance (2-3 HP loss is typical, which is less than 1% on a stockish LT1 car).

I would do as BMXer says and climb under there to see what you have. If you aren't sure, snap a few pics and post 'em up, we'll do our best to help.

Start by getting under the car and find out if you have the stock cat-back which is 2-3/4" intermediate pipe or an aftermarket which is 3" I-pipe. If you're not sure, try to get some pictures and post them up and someone will be able to identify it. You probably didn't lose any power, it's more likely you were used to the sudden increase in noise which is no longer there.
