M/T Shift tone

Hi all,

I'll get the specs out of the way first:

2000 LS1 trans am 120k miles
Factory clutch/Trans
Tick performance adjustable master cylinder installed 30 miles ago
Car is barely driven 10 miles/week.

So when I go to shift, I will sometimes hear a deep whirring while releasing the clutch or while the pedal is fully depressed for a 3-2 downshift. It is not a grinding, but is constant when it happens until I engage the gear. There are no engagement issues though. I notice it most when going in reverse, as the sound is most noticeable when using the clutch the way you do in reverse. Also as I said it doesn't happen all the time.

Thoughts?

Was the noise there before you installed the tick ?

Sounds like it could be the throwout bearing. They way its intermittent and mostly during engagement/disengagement of the clutch.

Also the cheapest thing to try, everything else is going to be internal

When you get it in the 3-2 downshift is this while the clutch is engage or pedal to the floor. I was driving with someone before the tranzilla mention the coast side of that gear sounds like it was making noise.

Possibly two different problems.... I'd try the slave/throwout bearing first though and inspect the clutch while its out.

Original clutch or stock replacement ?

No it started making this just after the tick was installed.

During the 3-2 downshift it's while the pedal is to the floor and during engagement but goes away after I'm in gear.

And to the best of my knowledge it's a Factory clutch, I'm the second owner and have a ton of paperwork from the first owner however it could have been omitted from my documents I was given

Well I would start with the tick. Maybe call them and tell them your symptoms

Its properly bled?

But still could be the throwout since its on the slave

Yes it's properly bled (to my knowledge) I bench bled it and used a MityVac, and recently checked my reservoir and fluid levels were fine. I'll give them a ring and see what they have to say.
