carbonfiber roof panel/ new wheels

Well my birthday present showed up today, The wife bought me a carbonfiber roof panel. Im always looking to make the car lighter and i hate t-tops. so the roof panel drops about 22lbs from the highest spot on the car. panel is carbon fiber with a kevlar honycomb center very ridged, only weighs 4lbs. I also bought a set of 3 piece 16x12 racing wheels, between the wheels and roof panel im dropng 72lbs car should be about 2995w full tank. With 2 scca national events within 2hours of me i need to make the car as competitive as i can afford to

What do you think stock hard tops have?

take off the head liner and look, there is a sheet of metal that covers it.

the tops are removed along with all the hardware. The top is going to be attached with stainless fasteners. The roof is really a race only item. If you wanted you could epoxy the original t-top hardware to it and make it weather tight, but then you would lose a lot of the weight savings.

Should've raced with the t-tops off!

Looks good, can't say I've seen anything like that before. You like 16s better than 17s for autox?

I hate the way it looks with them out. For the cp class I race you can get larger sizes in a real slick cheaper than a 345x18 a6 or 335x17a6. I can save 300 per set going to a 16x25x13 bias ply hoosier and they are faster. The hard part is finding a affordable 16x12 rim. most 16x12 rims start at 400 a piece and go up from there, ccw's are 2400 for a set The other reason is in cp rims larger than 16 dia get a 100lbs penalty.

thats real nice. how's the fitment? looks good. do you have to cut out your center support or just remove the black lip or does it go right over it?

definitely throw up pics when you finish it.

Looks awesome. Have you thought about running lexan windows in the front/back to shave a little weight off? Also like the transmission tunnel, floor, firewall, or other bracing could be made out of T6061 aluminum to lighten up the car a little.

rear window is lexan, could do front but i still drive it on the street not dot legal. There is weight to be removed but it costs money and I already have to add lead to make the min weight of 3050

Its looks great. Does it have a clear coat finish on it? Just wondering what the delivered finish is, I cant tell if its unfinished or just the camera flash making it appear that way.
Nice ride!

Nice ride!
its made with a uv resistant resin,so it does not need paint, but it might get painted in the future. the pic was fresh out of the box so its a little duller than it is now, and the flash was over exposed. thanks for the compliment

Do you stick solely with Autox or HPDE as well. Im a PCA and NASA member; took last year off but would like to head back out this year to race or at the very least a few HPDE's

no hpde just autox. I would like to one day but me being as competitive as i am I would have to be doing time trials or wheel to wheel. My budget wont alow that right now. I might try some hillclimbs.I have done some pca autox at the medowlands,You porsche guys dont like getting beat by a Camaro . I need the hood painted can you pm a quote vfn glass I would just drop the hood off. You def need to get up to the new lot at the medowlands big and fast new pavement

That roof is amazing! Love the car. What wheels were on it before? That COTM picture is insane. Those big wheels make the car look awesome.
