serpentine belt falling off

hey guys,

last night after the storm driving out of work in the parking lot i made a turn, hit a puddle at the same time and all my belt driven accessories went out. it happened once a few months ago so i knew what it was, checked under the hood the serpentine belt just fell off. i put the belt back on and it was fine, started driving again...and on 18 i was driving and hit the smallest puddle at like 55 and it happened again. put it back on and drove home. is it time for a new tensioner? this problem doesnt happen when its dry out but only when it rains. thanks for any help in advance

Jon

I would say yes, and a new belt...

the belt was replaced about 2 months ago..the tensioner looking at it while the motor is running the belt looks pretty close to the edge of the pulley

Yeah I'm gonna have to agree its a very cheap and easy place to start anyway. Hopefully its the right belt as in length, on the tensioner it back spins off it so it will take up the entire width of the pulley.

The tensioner is just two 15mm bolts to replace, literally a 5 minute job.

something could be out of line and forcing it towards the end and the only thing keeping it on the pulleys is the friction from the belt and then when it gets wet it has no friction and its just shooting off. make sure your crank pulley is all the way tight

yeah thats what it looked like...half the belt looked burnt or something it was brown the other side was black. i replaced the tensioner and the belt and absolutely no issues now. weird tensioner on the 3.8's the heater core hoses go right through it and into the block
