2008 Dodge Challenger - "will be identical to the concept version"
http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/07/...al-to-concept/
Production 2008 Dodge Challenger identical to concept
The exterior of the production 2008/2009 Dodge Challenger will be identical to the concept version, according to Chrysler VP and lead designer Tom Tremont. "You're not going to be able to tell the difference," he told the Detroit News. While Tremont's comments likely relate to the exterior of the car, the interior will also get a lot of attention. "We knew if we screwed this up, we would lose a lot of fans," said Alan Barrington, who designed the concept's interior.

Cool. It will look good, but be too big & too slow for its own good. Excellent.

Thirdgens are lighter then your car, despite the lack of steel on 4th gens, Commie.
So I assume it will also weight in at the heavy 2 ton and some change?

chrysler peeps at the detroit show were talking it would be in the 4200-4350 range jsut like everything else built on that platform. it will also be more expensive than any other vehicle on the platform.
i have been in magnums and 300's, both built on this platform and they ride great. it is a luxary feel. if you are looking for any sort of performance, straight line or otherwqise, you will be sorely disappointed with this line of cars.
chysler is back to their old ways. build over sized/overweight cars and then claim they are performers by throwing an expensive optional engine in them. i guess not outselling GM or Ford in the 60's and 70's with this strategy didn't teach them anything. lol

different market in teh past 30 years tim. back then performance was what mattered. now its all about style and features. if it looks nice, and is comfortable then it will sell. people would rather see high hp figures then power to weight ratios.

it will only sell in moderate numbers when there are two cheaper offering on the same platform with the same available options.
car companies have been moving more and more back into real performance in the last several years. to bill this car as a "performance" answer to the market and then leave it as the same old thing you are already selling is going to bite them in the ass 6months down the road when the hype dies off.
i am not saying it isn't a nice car, it just isn't anything near what they are trying to say it is. in the same price market that the srt version will be available you have caddies and bimmers with more creature comforts and better performance. the only thing it has to fall back on is retro styling, which hasn't been proven to sell any cars yet(just ask ford)

The Challenger will be Dodge's GTO fighter, not Camaro/Mustang fighter. It will be V8 only, 5.7 and 6.1.
And my I remind the class that the 4200lb weight is a CONCEPT and does not include air bags, and has a carbon fiber hood.

All I know is someone at work has a new charger sr/t or whatever the fast one is, and the thing looks way too big. It's bigger than my olds intrigue.

Pontiac is looking at the Charger for the next gen RWD/AWD Grand Prix replacement. I really really really hope that someone with some design ideas can make a more coupeish Grand Prix, much like the G6 has a very coupeish roofline. It would flow well with the rest of the line up.

They keep saying carbon fiber hood, and the pics I have from the auto show make it look more like carbon fiber stickers. Not saying the hood isn't really carbon fiber, but that's still tacky.
