New bike, new times, new problems...

Went to island yesterday on my new CBR1000rr. I only have jeans(need leather pants at 120mph or faster) so I had to cut every run short up until the last one.

Onto the problems...1st gear can't get much more than 3/4 throttle or it stands up from 7k-12k, also has the same problem in second gear. Also, on the one pass that i went WOT on the 1-2 shift the back tire got ZERO traction and the bike went sideways

The verdict? the bike is fast as ***** and i freaking love it!

I'll post the 1/8 times since that's all thats pertinent(minus the last pass)

1st Pass
let off early
60'...... 2.186
330..... 5.736
1/8..... 8.817
MPH.... 92.54

2nd Pass
60'...... 2.299
330..... 5.608
1/8..... 8.093
MPH.... 102.56

3rd Pass
60'...... 2.359
330..... 5.448
1/8..... 7.763
MPH.... 107.15

4th Pass
60'...... 2.146
330..... 5.251
1/8..... 7.562
MPH.... 108.79

5th Pass
If I made a full pass this run I would have gone 10s!
60'...... 2.182
330..... 5.153
1/8..... 7.423
MPH.... 110.15

6th Pass
last pass so i wound it out to the finish line(had to lift severly in 1st due to wheelie)
60'...... 2.161
330..... 5.267
1/8..... 7.613
MPH.... 107.29
1000... 9.586
1/4..... 11.270
MPH.... 133.94

For the record, his face was hilarious when he explained his run. And they he proceeded to give coaching advice on proper launch for my buddies camaro haha.

why don't u let us know when you have some "Real" problems? lol jk. That bike is fast as sh&* but you didn't mention it was a 1000cc bike when you stopped by!

My advice...even though I never have ridden a bike would be to abuse the clutch on the launch until your going fast enough to get on it more. As for the second gear wheelie...yea don't use as much throttle on that beast (better said than done). I wouldn't imagine you want to turn this thing into a more drag oriented bike but I've seen guys lengthen the rear links to get the rear wheel more behind the bike.

Just talking out my ass. Don't mind me.

btw, going to need some of that launching assistance whenever I make it to run the bird.

haha yea the only "drag-oriented" mod i plan on is a front lowering strap. Other than that it's fine just the way it is

since you posted this i did a little reading up on track bikes. most of the info i found pointed towards 3 areas that you can approach to keep the front down on a budget.
the first and prolly least expensive is to strap the front like you mentioned. there are a few things out there with guys using modified $5 come alongs from the local hardware store.
second least expensive is to actually lower the bike with springs and progressive shocks. a nice side effect of this is that it will improve the road handling of the bike as well.
the most costly of the common methods is an extended swing arm. there are ways and places to find them fairly cheap, but you will still be $600+ into it if you plan to do it the right way with a brand new chain, extending brake lines, and upgrading all the assciated hardware(longer arm = more leverage against fasteners)

there are a few things i found that mention raising the rear air pressure. the idea being that a bit of wheel spin is easier to control than the front end heading for the moon. nothing seemed to contain any guidelines of how much pressure to use to make a difference though. i don't think that one woudl be good for you anyway sinc eyou already had it spin the tires on you.

thats what im shootin for next time out since ill have leather pants and the ability to make more than one full pass

tim, the most im going to do with this bike is strap it and put stock gearing back in it. i already have the strap and i just need to find someone that wants my aftermarket sprockets. I have no interest in lowering the bike since i want to hit a road course or two, plus i don't plan on spending more than a couple days a month at the dragstrip.
