Looks like I can't continue the Collector registration due to the age but all I see on DMV website about QQ is that the vehicle can only be driven for car show and educational purposes. Any insight from you QQ owners?
None of this says you can't continue with the collector vehicle status.
Collector vehicles
To be classified as a "collector vehicle" you need to apply when you register and make sure that the vehicle: Is not registered as a "historic vehicle" or a "street rod"
Is not driven more than 3,000 miles per year
Is insured as a limited use "collector vehicle"
To qualify for an exemption: Visit an MVC Agency to purchase a voucher for a special decal to mark the vehicle exempt from safety and emission inspection; fee is $25 for an initial voucher and $10 to renew
Take the collector vehicle to a State Inspection Station where the inspector will verify the odometer reading
You must provide approval letter from the MVC I/M Support. Vehicle must be prequalified as a collector vehicle
Submit completed application to:

Motor Vehicle Commission
Collector Vehicle
P.O. Box 680
Trenton, NJ 08666-0680

When I had my Turbo Buick. I drove to work at least twice a week every week during the summer. I never got stopped for QQ tags. I also work 2nd shift so I was surprised. I kept my regular auto insurance. But some of the collector insurance companies have unlimited mileage and will allow an occasional drive to work.

Less than 25 years old is what had me question it, unless I'll be grandfathered in. It just makes no sense. What I have below is off their website but it's dated 2007.

To be classified as a "collector vehicle" you need to apply when you register and make sure that the vehicle is:

A limited production vehicle or a vehicle made in limited quantities
Less than 25 years old
Not registered as a "historic vehicle" or a "street rod"
Not driven more than 3,000 miles per year
Insured as a limited use "collector vehicle"

From what I remember, you are grandfathered until you let it lapse. If you do, you are out.

Hmm, I guess I'll be going to DMV in the spring and see what they say. The registration has been renewed and kept current but my inspection has lapsed since the car was under the knife.

Pretty sure it's the reg and not the sticker that keeps you in.

Vehicles granted Collector Vehicle Status will be permitted to be issued a renewal voucher until it reaches 25 model years old. If the vehicle is to be renewed on its 24th model year, it will be issued a Collector Vehicle Status Sticker expiring with the vehicle registration. When the sticker and vehicle registration expire, the motorist will have to decide whether to have the vehicle inspected or have it register ed as “Historic Vehicle.”

Put the stock hood back on, problem solved!

I don't think you'll have an issue with that hood, and if you do, you have plenty of pictures of your car with the stock hood that you could use to resubmit.

Hi. I just got QQ (historic) plates on my 86 this past weekend. There is no mileage limit. $44 one time fee them mail in slip every three years with no fee. No inspection. What the DMV said while technically for show or educational purposes cops are not going to pull you over unless they want to check out your car. My neighbor has a 50's F-150 which gets a lot of attention.

Anyway, my question for coming here: I heard there is a collectors insurance company in Cherry Hill that is very popular. Has anyone used him and what is the agency's name?

I believe that's American Collector's Insurance. They are a GEICO product now, so be aware of that.

That's interesting, when did that happen? My wife's ins was 80 something last year and the renewal is 120 something for the same thing with ACI.
