LB9 vs. LO3

The designations LB9 and LO3 simply refer to the type of intake system with the 305 right? The engines themselves aren't different? If I were to buy an LB9 305 and swap it out for my LO3, I could just put my old TBI on that newer engine right?

for the most part yea, however some "custom" wiring may be in order and you might have to get a different computer

Yeah I'm just swapping out my seized 305 for a working 305. The ecm I have is already set for the TBI, I just need a new engine.

What year did they stop using the cold start injectors? Since mine is an 88 and the original engine, should I be concerned about getting an engine that does or does not have that cold start? Or is that cold start stuff just for a TPI?

LO3 had swirl port heads, cams are different to a extent, but "peanut" cams can be found in Lb9s also.

the heads on the LB9 were a slight upgrade and the later LB9 got the same cam as the L98 which is a slight improvement.
all of your tbi stuff will bolt right up. while you have the motor waiting to be swapped in you may want to get a qucik cam swap done. that is the biggest weakness of pretty much every stock small block.

later
