Trying to convince a friend to get an F-body
I've got a friend whos looking to get a play car. He's a mopar guy, since thats the way his family is, but he doesnt want to spend the money on a challenger and doesnt like chargers. He's got a shortbed regular cab hemi 1500 that is pretty powerful, but I think he wants a car. I was thinking, wow a ls1 fbody would be perfect for him. He said he test drove a ws6 6 speed ls1 and it "rode like crap." Now he's considering a mustang gt...like the 2valve 4.6. It makes me want to punch a baby knowing that a friend of mine will be driving a car he thinks is cool but is really slower than his truck. I tried to tell him that a camaro will blow the doors off the mustang, but he wont believe me. What do I do? I think when my motor gets together I will have to show him that the GM v8 is king of the road.

Bring him to Etown or Atco and show him that you're not lying.

Just look up the magazine reviews online. None of the 4.6 Fords are quicker or faster than an LS1 F-body.

Inform him that a 4.6L Mustang gets routinely crushed by 4 door family cars.

torque-arm rear suspension. nothing else to say. no other car came from the factory with it, and it's a very useful, adjustable suspension system. some drag cars are adding a torque-arm to keep the rear end from twisting under hard acceleration.

Personally, dont try to persuade him at all, let him buy what he wants, so when he routinely gets smoked by LS1's, he'll eventually figure that he went with the wrong choice. lets see here, a 300hp 4.6, which is still less then a 6 year old discountinued car, 280hp 4.6 DOHC Mustang - still have a high price tag, and yet are 25hp less then a standard LS1, not even including a SS or a Trans Am WS6, or a 260hp 4.6 SOHC - which has less horsepower then an LT1, Not to mention the weight differences.......yeah he really doesnt know how to choose cars, then again, neither does his whole family. He's really gonna say that a WS6 rode like crap, and he wants a mustang? what a ****ing chode, let him be, and let him teach himself his own lesson IMO.

IIRC, the Mustangs have progressive rate springs. Great for ride but not great for spirited driving.

If he thinks the WS6 rode like crap, then obviously he has no idea what a good handling car feels like. Tell him to get the WS6 or go get a Buick if he wants a spongy ride!

i hate where they stick the shifter. its set too far forward. maybe its just cuz the dash is 4 feet tall too.

the mustangs have a notchy rubbery bent shifter. dont like the way theyre positioned at all.
you can tell him this.
my 98 z28 Ls1/A4 pretty much stock (lid and catback) put down mid 13's on street tires with 94k miles on the clock. a buddy has a 2001 mustang, 5 speed with the same mods running mid 14's with the same mileage on the clock.
thats a good year GT vs a crap year z28 (first year model).
just tell him your point of view of the bang for your buck and let him make his own decision. theres like 3 gt mustangs on craigslist right now trying to trade for a ls motor car. you can always show him his future

I think i'll let him learn the hard way. When the only way to get into the 12s or 13s with a 4.6 is with nitrous or supercharger and he finds out that his mustang gets beat by anything it races. Oh btw he's a cop so I think he got the idea for the 4.6 from the Police Interceptor crown vic he drives
