reverse light probs 81 T/A

Hello,
I was fixing the wiring in the engine compartment in my 81 T/A. I HAD to pull some out and then fix some. Now when I put the car in nuetral the reverse lights come on, then when in reverse they dont light up.
Can anyone tell me what to look for to fix this?

you may have knocked the backrod linkage out of whack. those are the rods that runs from the trans linkage up the firewall to the column. the column turns and works the reverse lights. 4 speed car?
