looking to tint..need an opinion
hey guys, I have a red 98 z28 and thinking about getting it tinted...im in between either doing 15% on doors/hatch and 35% on the windshield(my friend did it on his mazda3 and just makes everything look so much better) or my other option was 5% on the hatch/15% on the doors and 35% on the windshield...i like 5% but i think its just to dark for the doors and cuz its a red car 15% are going to look dark anyway...but if i go with 5 on the back and 15 on the doors is it going to look that much different cuz i dont want it to be really noticeable...also does anyone have a place they recommend to get the tints done that comes with a lifetime warranty in the north jersey area?

anything other than tinting the hatch is illegal in nj, just an fyi. YOU WILL GET PULLED OVER FOR IT. sometimes they will let you go if you pull the tint off in front of them

i know, my old maxima had 20% all 4 doors and only got 2 tickets in 2 1/2 years...my z28 is a weekend warrior (3000 miles a year at most) and most of the time when i drive it, i have the windows down and tops off...so im not really worried about the tickets...figure ill get one every now and then

Don't tint the windshield man.
I have 20% on the hatch & sides and think it is more than enough.

just dont do any auto image..or at least the one on 18. went there and the ****ed both of my windows up.
but some friendly advice..if you can afford to flush 56-112$ a month down the toilet than by all means do what you are thinking of doing, if not...dont do it. when i had 20% on just my front windows (not even counting the windshield which is what you are planning to do) i got pulled over at LEAST once a month. i got pulled over twice in the span of a week and a half once and got two tickets. its so not worth it.

5% HATCH 20% DOORS 20% WINDSHIELD DROP. thats the way i like mine, the windshield drop is only like 1 1/2"- 2" lower than the 1a mark from factory. i have noticed that when you have a front drop very low you tend to get pulled over. well, your case red car alone askin to get pulled over. Paint it s***brown and nobody will even look at it.

5% all the way , dont do the windshield.
15% isnt that far off from 5%, just do it, uniform look and tint is tint, cant get a more exp ticket for darker tint. Also i had mine tinted out for 2 years (inspection to inspection) and I got pulled over 3x. $54 ticket. Makes the car look so much better

im not worried about the tickets...dont drive the car that much anyway...plus come thanksgiving the car goes in the garage till mid march...i really only drive the car when its nice enough to have the windows down...but i just wana make it look nicer...plus just got inspection done so im good with that for another 2 years and its only like $25-35 extra for the windshield...if it becomes a problem ill just take it off

That's incredibly cheap for a 1 piece hatch tint....are they doing 1 piece, or splitting it?

youll be able to tell a little bit after its tinted that its split.
as for the windshield....i wouldnt do much more than just a strip at the top. if you tint the whole thing you will...not might...you will be pulled over by every leo you pass

Untouchable will do it in one piece, not two. They were supposed to do mine, so I spoke to the Tinter in detail about what & how. He originally quoted me 150, but he said he could go a little lower. Sounds about right, go for it minus the windshield.
my 2 cents.

yea, i say 5% hatch. 35% darkest if you do go ahead with the sides.
on my ss i have 5% on rear stock rear hatch and used to have 5% on the sides till the tint itself failed and peeled. I also have a vinyl strip on my front which extends 13" down on the sides and like 7" down in the middle. Thats barely noticeable though, and i bet few people realize i have it. However my new hatch going on my car will stay clear.
My SKY is 5% sides and back and will stay like that.
Had a friend who tinted the full front, looked good, but not safe or legal at all... just dont do it.

Are you glad you only did 15 in the back? My dd has 20 all around and it's perfect but my Camaro has 5 all around and it's hard driving at night and switching lanes during the day because I always think something is there due to it being dark

I only have my back tinted to 15. I had 35 on the sides but I got a ticket for it in my home town so I pulled the sides off the next day and haven't thought about tinting the sides ever again. I dont know how you guys can see well enough with the windshield tinted. Night time driving has to be a reall PITA!
